Procedure to eliminate the malfunction light from the spoiler.
#61
I have seen a lot of people asking for the same question:
"How to eliminate the malfunction light from the spoiler."
In my case I do not want the wing go up anymore, others just want the GT2 deck and no this annoying sound and light.
I have done some search on the board (Porsche PhD) and it seems that there is a cheap and simple way:
1.- Unplug the harness on the right side of the engine deck.
2.- If you look at the harness from the rear, with the lock at the top:
3.- Unplug the thick green/blue, by pulling it out of the harness (ground for motor), Tape it up.
4.- Then connect gray/brown with a spoiler power thick yellow/green.
5.- No light no hot spoiler motor wires.
6.- You can remove the spoiler switch bottom from the dash if needed.

2.- If you look at the harness from the rear, with the lock at the top:
a) Start at the bottom row:
i. thick brown and thick black = fan motor
ii. next to them a thin red/blue and brown/red =lamp
iii. next is a single thin wire for brake light power
b) top row: i. BLANK,
ii. then first is a single wire for the brake light(signal),
iii. next a green gray spoiler switch wire,
iv. next yellow/green thick spoiler motor (positive) ,
v. next thin gray/brown spoiler switch,
vi. Last thick green/blue (ground) spoiler motor.
4.- Then connect gray/brown with a spoiler power thick yellow/green.
5.- No light no hot spoiler motor wires.
6.- You can remove the spoiler switch bottom from the dash if needed.
Can anyone post a picture where this hardess is located ? i would really appreciate it and make life easier fiddiling around back there !

It's pretty easy to find. Just follow back the harness from the spoiler. It's located on the right wall of the engine bay about 12 inches back. You can reach it with your hand but I'd recommend a long flathead screwdriver (skinnier point) to release the clip.
I tried the above instructions (the updated ones) and neither have worked for me however... My stereo guy did it for me as he has better equipment but I now need to go back and confirm he did it right as I am still getting the warning in the display.
Good luck and report back if it works for you, please!! I want to get this handled once and for all b/c it's pretty annoying to keep seeing that light go off!

+1 The aerokit harness simply plugs right into th existing plug and is reversible.

You should connect(bridge) the GRAY/BROWN wire with the GRAY/GREEN wire and NOT the yellow/green wire. Then it works.
Here's a link to disabling the malfunction light on a Boxster. It's the same wires and color.

No luck
I'll be buying the aerokit harness tomorrow... This thing is annoying me an not worth the hassle/time. I was just hoping there was a quick fix by crossing a few wires but nobody seems to know the right combo unfortunately! Thanks for everybody's help regardless.

I bought the aerokit harness, plugged it in over the weekend (spliced for the aftermarket 3rd brake light I have) and properly routed everything. Works like a charm! Finally, no more annoying warning light.
I bought the harness, shipped to my door for about $210 from Sunset Imports in Oregon.

Not sure. I went with another used stock wing. Maybe a mistake when it breaks again.
You can try Sunset Porsche and talk with Ric Knab (rknab@sunsetautogroup.com).
Good luck. Let us know if you do find the part number for the Aerokit harness.

I believe that this is the one I bought. Unfortunately it's over $200 bucks but it worked and cured the issues.
Rear Lid Wiring Harness for the 996T Aerokit is: 996-612-070-30
Call Suncoast or Sunset Imports and get price quotes and have them ship it out if you are tired of dealing with the warning. FYI-I have a fixed winged (GT2 style) add on spoiler and I gutted the hydraulics on my stock 996TT wing to lighten it all up... It's now fixed in the down position just as I like it.
Good luck!

For those that convert to the aerokit decklid - I have the OEM harness for the hydraulic wing and recently installed the areokit fixed wing. I had to disconnect the two electrical connectors for the hydraulic system to remove the original deck lid. At first, I taped the two little switches tightly, which made the contacts touch. I went for a drive and got the wing problem light at 70 mph. Next, based on advice received here, I removed the tape and let the swiches remain open and went for a drive. NO CEL. I have now driven several times, with occasion to reach speeds in excess of spoiler deployment speed and no light. There was no jumper wiring required. All I had to do was disconnect the connectors to the hydraulic system and tuck them out of sight, under the plastic cover. Couldn't have been any easier.
I think that those of you that want a fixed position on the hydraulic wing can probably set the desired height, then pull the two connectors and tuck them up and away like I did. Not sure, but I think it should work.
