Radar Roy
Been reading this website from this ex state trooper who's been bagging people for speeding for years... Some excerps from Rardar Roy
"We do not sell the Valentine 1, however as many people consider this radar detector the bench mark of radar detectors we do test it. The Valentine 1 is an excellent unit with excellent range and filtering. The big drawback in our opinion is the price as it costs $399.00 and does not detect POP3 radar guns at all! In our testing, the Escort 8500 outperformed the Valentine 1 in range and filtering. Upgradable by Valentine"
X-Band Testing
(10.475 to 10.575 ghz). X-band was the first radar band used for police radar. Approximately 20% of the traffic enforcement radar used by police in the USA utilize this frequency.
K-Band Testing
(24.0 to 24.25 ghz). K-band was introduced in 1976 and currently this is 60% of the traffic enforcement radar used by police in the USA today.
KA-Band Testing
(33.4 to 36.0 ghz). Ka-band is the newest band and it is rare to have false alerts on this band. It is also harder for radar detectors to detect police radar devices on this band. Currently this band is 20% of the traffic enforcement radar used by police in the USA today.
We feel that the most important feature of a radar detector is its ability to filter out stray harmonic frequencies that would also set off your radar detector as a "false alert".
X-band is the worst frequency for false alerts for radar detectors as everything from automatic door openers at supermarkets, alarm systems and other microwave devices share this frequency. K band false alerts also occur and today many garage door manufactures are using this frequency for their transmitters.
Most of the cheaper radar detectors have no filtering and they will be set off as you pass every supermarket, bank and microwave tower, and it will come to the point that you start ignoring the alerts, even when it is a real one.
The higher end detectors, such as the units manufactured by Escort and Beltronics have better filtering capabilities that decrease the false alerts substantially.
They dont' believe that laser jammers work.

He meant that this website (http://www.laserbusters.com/default.asp) owner promotes what he sells, but Motor Trend also did a test and the V1 lost the camparo to the 8500.

Unless escort comes out with a directional indicator...im going to stick with the valentine. It's not that far off in terms of performance, but knowing where the radar is coming from is one of it's biggest selling points.

I have the SR7 and Z3 which is the SRX when used together. You just use the shifter reciever from the Z3. I have blasted past cops and had the shifter go off and the cop pop me again from behind because he couldn't get a clear reading. Love the unit. BTW I have an extra SR7 brand new int he box for 550.00 if someone wants it.

What are POP3 radar guns??? What is the radar frequency??? Ka or what??? If it's a real issue, I am sure Valentine can address it with a simple software upgrade...Yes, V1's are upgradeable.
Mr. Valentine...care to chime in????
