Roll Bar Install Question

Roll Bar Install Question
I am in the middle of the Porsche Techequipment roll bar install and I can not get the bar into position. Any tips describing the proper way to "rotate" it into place would be appreciated...i.e. tip it front to back, back to front, side to side or a combination of the above???

You need rotate the bar so that the forward facing mounts(the ones that will eventually bolt into the front belt mount)on the bottom and the rear facing mounts(the ones that eventually bolt into the rear seat belt mounts) on the top and slide through the doorway in that position.then roll it rearward into position.Be very careful I repeat very careful not to rip the headliner ........i removed my headliner halfway..........when rolling rearward(it is very close espescially if the car has a sunroof). You will hear the plastic crushing behind the carpet on the rocker panels(this is normal).Oh and be sure to tape up the door jambs and having a extra set of hands helps alot!Take your time.Joe

The biggest surprize with this install is the improvement in handling. I drove most of the day today and when I first left this morning the car felt better through the back country road turns leading away from my home. Finally I reached a state highway and had occasion to pass a car requiring a WOT 2-3 shift. When I gave the car input to turn back in to my lane, it darted to the right on command and when I gave it the command to straighten out - it went into position so quickly, before I knew what was happening, I was tracking straight - it was almost shocking. Now my curiousity was peaked, so I tried a few more passes and a few turning drills and sure enough, the rear end is very quick to respond and feels much more connected to the steering input. I figured the roll bar would help the handling a bit, but it seems to be pretty dramatic. Originally, I was installing the bar and GT3 seats for a track day, but after driving today, I don't think I will take them out...

Kevin,
Everyone says about 6 hours and that is what it took. However, of that 6 hours, a lot of time was spend analyzing things and wondering what to do in regards to rotating the bar into place, what to remove, etc.
Once I got the word from Joe - it went right in. I pulled the carpet back and cut the plastic around the bolt with a dremel and that worked great (just watch for the wires - they were pretty far away from the area that needs to be cut). That won't have to be done again. Now that I know what to do, I think I could have the bar out in under 30 minutes and re-installed in an hour or so, but that might be wishfull thinking. Once you know what to do - it's pretty easy. Plan on two people.

What is the consensus regarding the safety of the Techequipment bar in an accident? Does the GT3 seat offer enough protection alone or is roll bar padding recommended? How about the hard SFI rated padding?

How long would it take next time having done it once already? Thanks, kevin
Once you get it in and drive the car, you will not want to remove it. I was only going to use it for track days, but now that I see the effect it has on the overall feeling of the car, I don't want to take it out. Contrary to my original thoughts, I think my car is going to become a 2 seater from now on...
