996 GT2 market...wheres it going?
Where do you guys think the 996 GT2 market will go when the 997 GT2 comes out? They're a little soft right now but do you think they'll get softer?
I've seen GT2 (2003s w/ 6k miles) go for 106-110k private party sales.
Think they'll go much lower when the 997 version comes out??

With the price of the 997 GT2s to be $200ish, without markup, and because of very limited production, I think 996s will stay pretty close to where they are. Can't see them dropping much.

John,
I understand your reasoning but the 996 GT2s were north of 185k, so the price is pretty much the same as a 997 GT2. The people who will get GT2s will be current owners and people who have relationships with Porsche dealers and i don't think a lot of these people will buy these cars for a premium.
I think they'll go lower, probably around 95k.
With all this said...I've pulled the trigger on a 2003 gt2 w/ 8k miles and paid 102k for it. I bought the car because i've always loved them and not because of their resale.
I just wanted to see what other people thought of the market.

My bet (based on my 03 purchase) is that they won't drop much further and believe it depends on how the new version is perceived once it's been out for a while also considering the numbers produced. I don't see 996 versions hitting turbo-like prices, especially with only around 300 stateside. They will always be very special cars. Only time will tell.

DMK is someone else...although that guy lives in Vegas too.
Yeah, I do plan on modding it. I don't know how far I'll go with it, but I know i want it driveable and enjoyable. I have a car that makes a lot of hp and I went too far with it. Some people would say that its "nature of the beast" but I think there's a point to where the car loses its "fun factor". I lost it with my other car. I won't do the same with this new car.

DKM,
You got a great deal on that car. I shopped for three months, talked to owners, scoured dealerships (online, of course) before finally buying an '02 for $110k. I did pay a premium since it was a dealer car and had a CPO warranty, (which I wanted) so I feel the price was reasonable.
Congrats on the good deal.

A 6speeder tried to get a 997 GT2 for MSRP and it was sold out from under hims for a much higher price.
Thus it does not seem that the new GT2 will have a tremendously negative impact on 996 GT2 values. An 03 w/ 8K for 102K is a very good deal.

I think the 996 GT2 is a great "build" car. I am in the process of finishing a major project using a 2002 gt2 base car. New car has full 997 RSR suspension, brakes, centerlocks, 997 style BBS monoblocks, and 997 RSR brakes. Engine is built by 911 Design (Loren Beggs) and is essentially a turbocharged GT3 motor and will dyno at over 800WHP. Transmission is fully re-geared for track use and includes a Guard GT differential w/ triple disk carbon clutch assembly. Using Michelin PS Cups, 295/30-18 fr and 345/30-18 rr. Car has extensive carbon Kevlar body mods using parts froM DP Motorsport in Germany. Includes full RSR rear deck lid and wing. Cannot wait to get it back from builder! It has been under construction for 5 months, mostly because factory 997 RSR parts are very difficult to get.

I went over the car many times before i bought it and I can assure you its never been on its roof. Its also never been hit or repainted for any reason.
