I was thinking of picking up a white one, i personally think they're pretty good looking and the i-drive i'm sure works fine if you take 2 hours to get to know it.

Bangle is no longer chief of design. He was moved within BMW from what I've heard. I think it was BMW's way of getting rid of him and saving face.

Chris Bangle has been " kicked upstairs " to supervise design of all BMW brands , incl. Mini and Rolls .
The designer of the new 5 series , Italian Davide Arcangeli, died of leukemia before the car went into production.
Boy the front of that M5 sure reminds me of the late "clown shoe" Z3 roadster.

Sounds like Pistol and I are the loners in this crowd. The only thing the new M5 needs are deep dish wheels from one of your premier wheel shops (BBS, Fikse, Kinesis, HRE).
As for the 7, just like the 996, I don't care for it stock, but when modded, I am absolutely in love with its aggressiveness.

I'd be more interested in a M6 Coupe than the M5. I still don't believe their claim of about 13 secs to 120 mph. If the car weighs about 4000 lbs and has 500HP, that gives it a power to weight ratio of 8lbs/HP. The average 996TT is about the same ratio. Also the 996TT has a bit more torque. Wouldn't the 996TT have better aerodynamics at the higher speeds for quicker acceleration?

Mark:
BMW tends to be very conservative with their power and performance figures. The weight should be around 3900lbs, so I would definately not be surprised with their acceleration numbers. Also, do not forget the car will have a 7 speed SMG tranny which will allow for more agressive gearing throughout. BMW will not play second fiddle to MB or Audi in terms on performance. But boy, they are losing the styling aspect quickly.

One thing is for sure is that it is controversial. I would buy a 39 and modify it before I bought that thing. Or how about the Bentley? Tighten up the suspension, it has quite an engine going for it and it is a classic marque. It is hard for me to buy from a manufacturer that is uncommited to racing.
