911 Turbo + Dastek Unichip
#17
The Unichip is VERY old, largely obsolete technology. It was on its way out when I purchased my 996TT in 2002. The Unichip was marketed for Porsches primarily by TRG, although I think TRG dropped Unichips long ago (I'm not positive). Now, the product is marketed directly by Unichip ( http://www.unichip.us/search_results.asp?dhtmlgoodies_year=2002&dhtmlgoo dies_make=Porsche&dhtmlgoodies_model=453054888 ). The Unichip does NOTHING more than a traditional ECU tune (e.g., boost, timing, fuel, etc.). The Unichip has the downside of being a piggyback system, such that it is visible to anyone accessing the ECU.
Finally, contrary to Bass16v’s claim, the Unichip does NOT produce an additional 160 HP at 1.0 bar. In fact, Unichip itself only claims an additional 90 HP and 85 TQ: http://www.unichip.us/DynoSheet.asp?...leID=453054888 . Moreover, given that Unichip also claims an improvement of 2.6 seconds in the 1/4 mile (see above link) (12.2 - 2.6 = 9.6 = LOL), I do not put much credence in their HP claims. On the other hand, an increase of 90 HP (415 to 505) might be possible with an additional .3 bar of boost, more timing, a free flowing exhaust, and a couple of other tweaks.
Bass16v, welcome to 6Speed. Your enthusiasm is commendable. However, you are dealing with a group of guys here who have owned 996TTs for a LONG time and, over the years, we have seen and tried almost everything on the market. Therefore, you would be well served to do your homework before you make extraordinary claims and/or exaggerate performance results.
Regards,
Craig

It's ironic that on Unichips site in the 911 PORSCHE TURBO tuning section- The car pictured in not even a Turbo Porsche... does anyone at Unichip know the difference between NA and Turbo cars???

He could be running straight ethanol... Higher octane, more boost, etc. They run everything off ehtanol in Brazil, even planes! I know everyone's favorite piggyback tuner in the US was tuning some Evo's on E85 with good results.
Then again there was an article in Panorama several months ago which suggested ethanol is not so good for Porsche seals and such.

Bass16 don't get mad at us. We're just trying to keep things in perspective as to how much power certain mods actually make. Like Craig said there are a lot of very experienced people on this site who have tried pretty much every combination insofar as making horsepower. Welcome and please respond.

Possible AWD dyno left in RWD? There's a number of explinations that could have made you think you were hitting those numbers, however if you laid down a true 580, its not from just a chip.
