I'm a software engineer. The big money is(was?) in
being good enough to be hired very early in a startup
that does well enough to go public. Did that twice.

No such luck here - had to earn it in real estate. Started as a broker with The Staubach Company and now a partner in a multifamily property acquisition firm.

I heard on a contest on the radio.... what is the worst job. People had to call in with their actual occupation and had to prove it at prize collection time to get the prize. I think it was $1000. Anyway, what do you think won?

They had something simular here also quite a few years back. The winner was the guy that drives around to each "Porta Potty/John" and drain out the waste. Upright it after the kids have knocked it over (Filled of couse) splashing and spilling everywhere etc..etc...All in the Hot Florida sun no Doubt.... The guy said he couldnt go anywhere for lunch etc...as he would be perfumed with the "Odors" of the Job....

founder and owner, Wheel Experts Automotive

started company with a $5000 investment and an office in my 600 sq ft apartment, and worked my way up. I guess I have our loyal customers to thank for that success in our 3 years.

i've come a long way in that time, but lots of hard work - used to put in 100 hour weeks

After 2 1/2 years as a stockbroker I took a little bit of money and founded an automotive lighting company. Today we import our own private line of xenon lighting (I'll keep it unnamed) and distribute it to warehouses and automotive stores in 40 states. It was a combination of hard work, great marketing, knowledge, connections and a bit of luck too...

Wink Making Stuff

We manufacture the WORLDS best Pressure Gauges and Pressure Calibration Instrumentation. None better.

I am one of the few manufacturers on this board, and still one of the few left in California.

The ol' "Excited States" was built on "manufactories", making things for the world. Or, the things that made things themselves like machine tools. "Arsenal of Democracy" and "Hog Butcher to the World".

Now it ALL comes from someplace else...if it all goes terribly bad; what would we do?

Software's nice I guess, but I find it as exciting as paint peeling (sorry).
