Has anyone used painter’s tape as a temporary bra?

Has anyone had luck using blue painter’s tape to temporarily protect the front of their Porsche? I, obviously, do not want to damage the paint. Please let me know if you have any experience using painter's tape or have recommendations regarding the proper adhesion to look for.

Thanks.

Michael

New guys at the track sometimes COMPLETELY cover the front bumper, hood, mirrors, etc with the blue tape. it is fine only draw back is you look like a dork.
I is amazing how I have never in years of track driving ever got a ding on the front at the track. tons of rubber that comes off, yes, paint damage no.
really more for piece of mind.
you will get more damage driving to the track than at the track.
I would also consider a 3M clear bra.
glad you are going to the track, have fun, good luck!!

I used it last month during my trip to LA. Yes apparently it tends to come off at high speed, but it did work to protect my front bumper + mirrors. It cost around $12 per roll.

Never done it myself, but I've seen people do it before. The way to solve the high speed peeling off problem is to apply the tape vertically instead of horizontally. This way the wind can't catch the leading edge of the tape and it won't peel off. Have fun!

LOL, I did it too for shows...less cleanup when you arrive. You will be fine especially with a silver car.

I have used a clear, lightly tacky product used in dental care. Called "dental film." A show-car fanatic put me on to it. It can be found by searching on dental film on dental supply outlets. Not sticky enough to damage paint. Thick enough to avoid sand specs. Don't leave it on more than couple of days. Can create water spots underneath. Some race tracks have more sand and grit than others. I have a theory that there is a critical velocity above which you get lots of sand chips and below which you hardly ever will. Around 130? Sorry for rambling.

I have done it, just tape from the top down and you won't get any peel off. I did it once when i had to take the Z out of town, i didn't want to have to scrub the bugs off...it worked very nicely.
