Best Headers for TT?
#2
The stock headers are really well designed and from the research I did, I stayed with what I had and Kevin then agreed to take a look at them and see if he could improve upon them by hand, which he did. Ported and ceramically coated etc... I wouldn't bother doing anything else. Long tube headers are a PIA and you can't expect to slap them on without a retune and some seriously big air flow numbers (aka Turbos etc...) and other mods before seeing a benefit.

I have a set of sharky's headers that are brand NEW and never used and are still at Imagine for sale if you are interested.
I bought them before deciding to sell the TT

Hi Aero, I have some pix of them if you want me to post some in case Stephen doesn't. They're really great quality handwork- very labor intensive for Kevin but they came out real nice.
PS Also Mansour is always a pleasure to deal with so looks like you might have a solutions there Aero.

Thanks for all the help!

As far as gains, it's hard for me to say because of the difficulty my car has with dynos. I can only really run on the drag strip or something of that effect. Everytime Kevin touches that part of the car it goes faster and faster is all I can say lol.... Stephen and Kevin may have some better idea since they've put them on a 6 speed car or two so...

Unless you're changing enough other stuff to make lots more
flow, Porsche makes the best headers. They are small, so
they don't contribute to lag, and they are insulated (double
wall) so they don't lose heat.
The 996tt was not designed by chimps. They didn't leave
a bunch of easy-to-obtain extra power to be gained by simple
individual bolt-ons.
I will add my vote for *not* changing your headers. Not now,
and only later, as a part of a tested tuened package, after you've
gotten as much as you can by systems that exist to get massive
power with the stock headers...
My 2 cents...

I agree. That's what I was saying, there's other areas that can be improved much more easily. The stock headers were a great design to begin with and it's only worth doing if you want to match up with bigger turbos free flowing exhaust etc.... which is why Kevin spent the time he did to work form the stock ones.

I have a brand new set of equal length, larger diam. GHL headers for a TT in the box. It is a long story and it involves getting my stocks ceramic coated and now I have these unused headers that are supposed to add 7 hp according to bydesign. Anyway, name your price. They are stainless, look like shiny titanium and they blue/purple with use (past experience on another car). If there are any takers, let me know. I need to raise $ for an enclosed trailer.

I checked with GHL, they retail for $1600 a pair. I will sell for $1200 including original box and packing slip. I'm not sure why I am discounting them so much, they are new, but I guess that is the reward for not buying from the factory?

Wow, thanks for all the feedback guys! I guess I'll just keep the stock headers for now. The car is barely at 400 miles, so i still have a ways to go before its even broken in!!
