Protomotive k24/20g 700+ setup

Hey guys,

I would like to know if anyone here is running these turbos. I'm trying to get some more power without having to spend alot more. I know GT30's would be better but its alot more money to convert and would be putting alot of stress on my stock internals. I would appreciate any info on this setup.

Thanks
Raudel

Raudel,

Have you spoken to Todd about the power curve of the K24/20? I have been told it is a high RPM turbo and will make more power than the 24/18G, but it's all up top and not necessarily the best for the street.

PS - I know the feeling- I have been thinking GT30's as the next step, as well. Now that I'm at the 700 level, it seems as though 800-850 HP would be about right.

i am running the same setup from Switzer Performance Innovation. We made 623 hp / 634 torque at the wheels on a dynojet at 1.4 bar of boost.

Hey Mark,
If you have time you should come out to our Thursday Edgewater meet. Quite a few people from 6speed come out to play and there are usually a few friendly runs set up and done. Around 20+ evos and Sti's there as well. Definately the place to be on Thursdays in our area.... Raudel is a regular there.... It would great to finally meet you and put a face with the name.

John D- I thought at this level I would be done and happy but the itch for more hp is starting up again. I would love to do GT30's but I feel to do it properly and get the full gain I have to do a full engine build a la Markski and I just don't have the funds to back that up right now.

Mark- pm sent

Keep me posted on what you find out. I'm always interested in knowing the upgrade options...If 24/20's get good reviews, it should be a relatively painless upgrade.

The GT30/71 are more responsive and have a 46lbs compressor wheel compare to the laggy K24/20 which has a 38lb wheels or so.

Yes but the gt30/71s require an extra $10K or work. you need custom headers, exhaust, water cooling, and a bunch of labor to fit oil lines and catch can....

I drove Bobby's k24/20g one and its amazing.... granted his are a special version for quicker spool.

Doesnt look like 10K to me? I thought you can just weld on a flange onto the stock header? They do make very nice V-band housings now. I think thats what Divexxtreme did? Changing out a few exhaust flanges and routing some water lines isnt too hard? The turbos themselves are also cheaper.....

Whats the K24/18G's flow rating?

By the way, nice meeting you Vincent! Love the new seats

It's at least $10K if you have a tuner do it.
$2500 for 2 Turbos
$780 for 2 Tial WGs
$2500 for custom exhaust
$2200 for custom headers
$2500 for all the labor and watercooling.

trust me when I say it's not that easy.. especially if u never did one. You can't use stock headers... u chop the flanges and make new headers... but that is after u fasten sudccessfully these garrett turbos... bend all the oil and catch can return lines... run water lines, tap into the motor block... redrill the holes on the catch can so it fits the garret turbo.... do some welding.. and then make an exhaust...
For an average weekend wrencher this is far beyond realization.... But for an experienced welder/ tuner it may be doable...
Instead, for $1000 or less u upgade to 20gs and have 670 rwhp on high boost(1.5 bars).... you cant beat it. I drove the only k24/20g in existence and I was shocked. U keep ur headers and exhaust- no welding nor watercooling required.. its a direct replacement.
Sure you get more lag( 2 or 3 hundred rpms vs 18g) but when does one get on a car below 3K? I never did even when I had K16 based Hybrids...
I'm basing my opinion stricky on a cost to benefit ration since the original thread was about upgrading to 20gs...

It's a car that took a lot of work to do.. only becasue the owner is very detail oriented. its basically the same set up as a full k24/18g with injectors, pumps, ICs, prot intake, maf and maf housing... etc....
I only drove it at 1.2 bars... meanwhile the other driver was in my car....
I do believe that there are better turbos... I'm not denying it... but all I can say is that this car felt awesome.... I really mean it. For a bolt on application that is still affordable I think it's a great set up. It's very similar to a 18g other except it will produce up to 50 rwhp more on high boost.
