Toyo T1R Tires for 996TT????
Hey guys,
The turbo needs new tires before inspection and I am debating what to go with. I mainly drive the car on weekends, putting about 4,000 miles a year on it in dry conditions. I have never tracked the car, but I do push it on the street.
The Toyo tires are a lot less expensive than most others, which is appealing BUT, I don't want to go with them if I am going to sacrifice handling, grip, etc?
Thoughts?

I have the Toyo's on my G35...Absolutely fantastic tire for the money, excellent in the rain and MUCH better than the overpriced junk Bridgstones that came OEM.
Now, for a stage 2 TT I would rather have the PS2's....they are a moderately superior tire, especially for hard cornering in the dry. However, I think PS2's are WAY overpriced but they are a better tire than the Toyo.

what sizes are you considering? I looked at their spec sheet,
and I don't see any that will work. There is no front/rear
combo with close-to-similar diameter. I don't see *any*
suitable rear tire...

However, I then looked here, and it lists other sizes!

The 225/40-18 and 275/35-18 seem like they will work closely enough. The
bigger ones, 245/40 and 305/35 seem too tall. I'd expect rubbing.

Joe,
These are the factory sizes that are available in the Toyo.
225/40/18
295/35/18
I wanted to go larger in the rear, but they don't make any larger. But stock is exactly the same.

you can't go wrong with Toyo T1-R ,one of the top tier street performance tire in a very resonable price range ,there are some others a bit better but all over-priced IMO ,another good option will be Falken RT-615 if you desire more dry traction.

I know it is not a TT but, I have used almoast everything on my SC'ed 2000 Boxster S (Pzero, conti sc2, pilot etc etc). The t1R's are by far the best all around tire I have had on it in rain and dry.

Wow, I truely didn't expect this type of response to the Toyo tire. I am really getting a good feeling about going with them. The stealership gave me a bunch of crap about not going with them and only going with the PS2's.
Glad to hear some positive real world experience with these tires, no matter what type of car they are on.
Thanks so much guys.

Ben, 335's in the rear? Are you making any modifications to the car in order to put that wide a tire in the rear? I wanted to go 315 in the rear but the RA1 doesn't come that size, so I stuck with the standard width.
