Kevin, Drone is very subjective. I am sensitive to drone and I would say very, very little in an extremely narrow band, narrower than I have experienced before in any aftermarket exhaust.

I have found the sound of this exhasut to be so pleasing and entertaining, that it's all good. Drone does not seem to be an issue. I really like this cross-flow design exhaust and honestly believe that anyone that installs one will be absolutely delighted and extremely happy with their decision. It has made driving my car much more fun and enjoyable.

 

God I wish you took trades!! I have a europipe loud and it is entirely to quiet for me. I would love the versatility of yours.

 

I wish that we could just buy the pieces we need/want.

You can! The idea was to offer a complete system in one package with all the possible options a user could ever want, yet offer the system in a base custom "buildable" format. There will be a cost advantage to purchasing the complete system, but if initially you pass on the bypass pipes and down the road you change your mind, you will still be able to add to the system and all the parts will interact with each other for a perfect fit.

For example, if you feel you will never, ever use straight pipes, then you can purchase the system without them at a reduced price and only pay for what you will use.

For a comparison of sound between our cross-flow muffler and straight pipes, I have posted a link to another SpeedTech X-cellerator system test start-up. This one features our muffler bypass pipes with 100 cell cats on cold start. It's taken in the same spot as the full exhaust test video posted above, in order to demonstrate a direct sound comparison. Listen to the turbos whistle and spool. The bypass pipes are very loud in person, but still not as loud as I had anticipated.

Do you have an option for Cats + Mufflers, with no straight pipes at all? Basically the quietest configuration of the four. Also, can you post a link to the audio of such a setup? (If you have one, obviously, I'm not asking you to make one.) The video on your site mentions 200 cell cats, so I'm not sure if it would sound differently. Thanks.

EDIT: Is number 2 what I'm looking for? I got thrown off by the $200 difference for what looks like $1,000 in parts.

 

Hi Seth - Yes, here is a link to a test video of the cats with muffler. As an incentive to purchase the entire system and get some exposure, we are basically throwing in the pipes - that's why the price difference is so little - thees are a special introductory prices, pushing the complete system with the goal that moany will take advantage of the "deal" and open up their options, post videos, etc. But if you absolutely don't want the other pieces, we have the kit available without them...if you compare similar designed exhaust prices, you will discover that the cat/crossflow muffler price we offer is extremely appealing for this type of system. Even the bypass pipes or the 100 cell tri-metallic cats when purchased separately are below typical market pricing.

Update - We have added a few options to our X-cellerator cross-flow exhaust system:

• New 63.5mm 2.5 cross-flow quiet version - virtually no drone, trademark cross-flow sound and all the options of the full 3" system. The cats, cat bypass pipes, and muffler bypass pipes all remain a full 3", so if you convert to the muffler or cat bypass pipes for track events, the system will utilize all 3" piping and provide superior flow. The muffler interior piping and the tips are 2.5" / 63.5mm.

• Ceramic Coating - Ceramic coated interior muffler piping and muffler inlet piping. This technology is borrowed from auto race teams, where the interior of exhaust pipes are often ceramic coated to retain the heat, which speeds the flow through the pipes and enables the motor to expel the exhaust gases with less resistance. It also looks great. Tips are also available with ceramic coating.

John, It's great to see my exhaust in pictures. At least one of us is famous. I had a chance to stop by EPL last Friday to see the exhaust before install. I was impressed by both the build quality and the light weight. It's a shame to have to re-install the rear bumper, as it hides the beauty of your system. It will be installed on the car within the next week, and I hope to have video to send you of it once installed.
