egads...ANOTHER exhaust question...

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE the sound of many exhausts from the sidelines and get chills everytime a 911 of any age rolls by at speed.

My dilema is...all of my current exhausts are resonance happy.

I currently have the following systems which at the track sound incredible: Fabspeed bypass pipes, Fabspeed Louds, and a prototype system I am beta testing for the manufacturer.

On the few occassions that I go to a local(ish) track and drive rather than trailer or on a fun run with locals, I get frustrated with the drone/resonance present on all of them at about 3K RPMS.

Is there any system out there that doesn't drone or resonate inside the cabin? It's not the loudness that gets me....but the reverb.

Well in any other case, I would just say "have a shop weld in a resonator on each exhaust section" however, I don't know where the heck you would find the space !!!

I know what you mean! I had B&B on my 86 Cab and it sounded awesome but my wife would not ride in it anymore due to the resonance. I would like to put some exhaust on my 01 Cab but do not want the resonance. I would also like to know if there is any exhaust available without it.

You guys might want to look into Milltek, they make VERY nice exhaust systems. Every car I have ridden in with one of their systems has been nice and resonance free.

i had the same problem with my fabspeed exhaust so i put on quieter muflers from fvd and the resonating went away. i have fabspeed headers, exhaust, 100 cell cats. car sounds great!

Same issue that I have with my '77 track car. I have a 3.2l in it and I am running the full GHL header/two out exhaust system. Talk about loud!

Could one assume that with the stock cats and headers and a set of FVDs, you would have no resonance?

I know this is a very subjective subject and many are driving around with the same set-ups I have...and enjoy it. I love the way my cars sound outside of the cabin but it's gotten to the point that I rarely drive the 996 anywhere but the track now...I can't stand it.

I wonder if the MK1 PSE hack would be what I am after?

Is there any resonance with the PSE hacks?

I apologize for the rambling/ADD(ish) post.

I think for now I am going to put the stock cans back on with some sport tips and sell the three set ups I have.

FWIW - I have a set of suncoast/evo headers, stock cats, and Tubi exhausts with zero resonance on my 01 Cab.....

Hope you like the sport tips!!!

I've never heard of them elsewhere but I have a Gillet system on my car and it sounds sick.

I'm sure I'll like them Will, thanks for the painless (although humorous) transaction.

I'm dying to hear cars that don't have resonance. In my opinion, even the stock exhaust resonates very mildly from 2-3k. But, since the exhaust is so damn quiet, you don't hear it. I wonder if some of the louder exhausts just exaggerate that sound. Else, perhaps I'm just not interpreting resonance correctly and that's just the normal sound. I guess the key factor is if it's annoying.

Right. Maybe drone is the better term.

I think pretty much all of the aftermarket exhaust systems sound phenomenal from outside of the car.

Unfortunately, it's next to impossible to measure the drone/resonance from any system unless you are inside the car and at the speeds/rpms you personally cruise at.

I'm putting the stock system with sport tips (by the way Will they look great!) on it until I can find some owners that are local(ish) with different configurations so I can "hear" for myself what they sound like.

Fortunately work takes me all over the midwest...anyone in the MN, IL, IN, OH, MI, WI areas with aftermarket systems that would be willing to give me a ride to check the sounds?

Cargraphic. Nice and loud at WOT but no drone when crusing.

this is what i did... i had full stock set up...

-then i added EVOMS Intake, whihc gave me a Ton of Drone, my ears almost blead at 5k RPM, but i loved it...

-Then i did the Pfaff Sport Exhaust for a Week as a Trial... Those sounded like Porsche Sport Exhaust on Red Bull... Bacially what they do is open up the Stock Exhaust and Re-Roue everthing... so once the Exhaust fills up the Cans, everything gets By-Passed Straight...

-Then i did Tubi Styles Muffler, which are just Insane sound... and my Drone went down like 80%...

-Then i did EVOMS Headers, which made the Tubi sound like they are on Red Bull... which also made the Drone go down like 5%...

So bacially i have been told my car now sounds like a Race Car...
