B&m Ssk
#16
I have been speaking to a few Porsche dealers in the SoCal area and they are telling me in order to avoid potential future warranty problems with the tranny that i need to use the OEM short shift kit instead of a B&M.
B&M makes both kits, and they are identical except for color. I don't see any way Porsche could deny warranty work on the tranny if you had the aftermarket B&M in your car; both units work exacty the same way.
Save yourself some money and buy the B&M shifter and install it yourself.

Of course the price is a wee bit different($516), but i guess for the piece of mind it is worth it.
I hope to have it installed next week.

I bought by B&M from Brandywine Porsche (Board Sponsor) for $199.
Your dealer is just trying to take your money. They can't deny a warranty claim unless they can PROVE the part caused the problem. Considering they are both made B&M and many dealerships install these shifters, it seems VERY unlikely you will expereince a challenge.

Factory short shifter vs. the B and M
The factory short shifter is installed complete with the housing. The unit is installed with the plastic shift bushings and may break easier than the B & M unit that includes the machined aluminum bushings. Also, the EVO linkage is a wise addition to the B & M unit. This linkage is very high quality machined aluminum and will NOT break. the current plastic linkage used by Porsche breaks even on cars without the short shifter installed. The B & M at $199.95 from Brandywine is a great price, but i added the Linkage for only $129.95 additional. They only charged me $7.50 to ship both insured fedex.
