Keyed.... new paint job suggestions?
Yep, my newly restored 996 has been vandalized....
So, with this issue now being addressed I thought it might be a good time to consider a little upgrade. The car has a full body kit and wing on it with custom wheels. It's a 1999 in basic black and the black is a nightmare to keep clean and swirl free.....so, I am thinking since the car will need to be repainted to fix the damage why not go with a slightly better color. I am thinking maybe a black metallic like the new Basalt black or the Diamond Black pearl VW uses. It would not be too different so it will blend in with the standard black the car was originally painted but should look a little better and hide swirl marks better... What do you guys think?
Here is a few pics for reference...

Thanks guys... the second pic was with the old wheels I had thrown on to get it on the road. The first pic is with my new Forgeline custom wheels that I am VERY happy with. Yes, the front is a Caractere front end... when I bought the car it had some minor body damage so I figured may as well go custom if I have to buy replacement parts anyways.
One of the reasons I am trying to keep it a black type color is that only the outside and maybe the door jambs will get painted... not looking to do a full custom repaint so I thought a nicer metallic black would be a little better than the standard black. My VW Passat had the Diamond black pearl paint and it actually held up very well and did not show swirl marks and scratches half as bad as the plain black paint I have now....

BSM, I know where you are coming from on this but the stock black paint shows swirl marks and light dust scratches within days of being detailed... Since this is a daily driven car it is hard to keep it looking nice. With the key damage done to about 70+% of the car I figure a total respray would be better than a patchwork repair job anyways. I am not worried about resale as I bought this car dirt cheap and will be keeping it a very long time (new engine even!)
Believe it or not, but it was keyed at a shop that was doing some mechanical repair work on it. Sucks completely....
Still will look into the metallic black colors, want to see them in person before making a decision though.

Frustrating that the car was keyed - someone did this to my 996 C4S and had to have the whole side of the car repainted. Thankfully there are some great high quality shops out there that can do the job so well that its near impossible to tell.
I hear you on the reasoning... if you do decide to go w/ another black, then maybe consider the OEM Basalt Black. We have this on our Cayenne, and it is beautiful (and won't notice swirl marks w/ it).

Yep, I will be going to the Porsche dealer on Monday to check out the Basalt black in person... figure, if I am going to pick a color may as well make it a Porsche one!
...plus, it should still count as OEM! LOL
