Modded 996 vs. 996 w/ x51

Hello folks,

My friend is p-car shopping right now and yesterday at the dealership there was an '03 996 w/ x51 package. I really wish I had a chance to test drive it, but another customer got to it first for a test drive and eventually purchased the car. So my question is, how comparable would a modded 996 with plenum, exhaust, headers, ecu, v-flow etc compare to an x51 optioned 996? The pse on the x51 sounded awesome!

Thanks,

Ray

i would imagine the 996 modded would be just as fast if not slightly faster.

the X51 package would walk all over it on the racetrack....... higher rpm torque from 5000 rpm to redline makes all the difference... X51 has different camshafts and is under- rated @ 345 HP but the actual HP is closer to 360HP ...

Additionally the X51 has different heads and intake as well. Different valve timing, etc...

Its a significant modification to the flat 6. I wish I had it on my 6.

You can purchase the x51 for about 9K last time i checked. Installation is another 3K+.

The SC won't pass inspection in some states.

I have to call BS on this. I have a well modded 996 that dyno'd at 262rwhp, which equates to 314chp (vs. Factory 296). All my mods only added about 18hp increase. Max HP is only half the picture, as my useable RPM and Torque curves were MUCH better. Car feels TONS more than 18hp faster. With 100 octane I can run with a 997S. I wish I had dyno'd it with 100 in her.

Are you sure that's not Bhp, or adjusted Crank Horsepower. My old 944 turbo with a modded turbo and lindsey racing MAF was pushing 240whp on TPC's dyno and on a roll that car would eat 996's. Maybe there are huge dyno differences or maybe that RSS Plenum is that good. But my car flys. Of course, it is only 27XX lbs!

PS - sorry FLY, not trying to bust your ***** - just can't see the diff.

I think 320hp on the 3.6 is underrated from factory, no?
