hc11238 is infamous around these parts
Smile Novice Here!!!!

Hello all.

Someone sent me the link to this forum because I am in the market for a 2001-2003 996 Cab Tip. First off, I called about 11 dealers in my immediate area (Bklyn, NY) and only 2 of those dealers have one. One has a 2003 Gray with 3500 miles with heated seats, leather, 18 inch wheels (isn't that standard?), PSM and supple leather and they want $75,000 for it. Is that right? Also, there is another 2003 in my area which has 5000 miles but I am having a hard time getting the dealer to tell me the options (it is a REALLY legit dealer too) but they want $79,000 and its supposedly NOT NEGOTIABLE. Can someone give me some advice as to what to do in this situation or if I am doing something wrong. I tried looking up ad's in the NY Times and I found a whole lot of nothing. I also tried Ebay (which I love) but NOTHING and I have a trade in (2002 BMW 530i, 9300 miles. Black/Black Leather and dark wood int).

I guess my other question while I am here is, are these cars negotiable or not? I am in sales and EVERYTHING is negotiable. Please help!

Don't be afraid to look outside of your area and to have a car shipped. I had mine shipped across the country because it was the color/options that I wanted. It also took me four months to find it - so don't be discouraged. You are coming into the summer, so cabs are a hot commodity.

By the way, almost nothing is "standard." The 911 is basically an a la carte car - there are dozens of options, so make sure you know which ones you want and don't settle for one without them. PSM, litronics, heated seats were a "must" for me.

Go with the '02-'03. There were significant changes from the '01, including 20 more HP, a glass rear window(very nice to have) and a strenghtened chassis.

Lastly, do a search on the Porsche web site for CPO cars and just start calling dealers. You will probably get a much better deal on a Florida or Texas car. There are more of them and the market is softer there.

You should not have any difficulty getting about 10% off list price on a new 04. This should bring you in the price range of the pre-owned ones you are looking at, depending on options. Now is a great time to buy a 996.
