Not entirely right. Yes, in order to reset the ECU/DME you need disconnect the battery and leave it disconnected for some time. This has nothing to do with the radio. The codes for the stereo are stored in the DME and as long as you are using the same stereo that came with the car, you will not have to enter any codes. There are no codes for the ECU...again as long as it is the same DME that came with the car. If you change ECU, you will have to use a PST2 or PIWIS to reprogram it to mate with the car.

I think im a little confused by that but I have had to enter my code before because i disconnected the battery and let it die and reset the ecu. I didnt remove anything in the system....

The problem is you are talking about your car not the OP's car. Yours is a 1999 by the avatar...this is pre-MOST and pre-PCM2. Yours will require codes...the OP's car WILL NOT!....now back to the thread.

Ok, same question about a 2001 996 C2? I am going to try this tonight since I need to replace my battery.

Any help would be great.
