congrats, I got one for the wifey too last year, fully loaded, just missing the Mark Levinson tag. She wasn't happy that I replaced her Acura TL with that.

Definitely nice and peppy off the line compared to my Porsche. But nothing compares to the Porsche when its on the move and you drop it down a gear and get hauling

Congrats on the sale of your car and subsequent purchase of a new one. I like that car, as well as the 335i. Did you consider a 335? I too am in the process of selling my 996 and replacing it with something else, albeit a SUV

Nice choice Newport!

Sorry that we won't be commiserating about Minis... and please don't get caught with the 3-series vs. IS wars!

I wont...you CANNOT get a 335 for what I bought my IS for....and I looked at similar 328i's and you got NOTHING in them for $30k...no Nav, no full leather, no bluetooth, no sports package...and NO 300 HP!!!!

So it was a SIMPLE decision for me. The car that I MAY have gone for if it was out would be the 135i...That will be a hot little car. Still wont be had for 30k...probably closer to 40.

Add to that reliability of Lexus vs BMW, and customer service and comfort...its a no brainer...no if price wasnt an issue, I'd have gotten a fully loaded 550i. But the 3 series is not that special in my opinion. I'd rather have the Merc C class...thats a nice little car.

I was not trying to get a IS vs 3 series war going, just asking if he had considered the car and what he thought. He has come to the same conclusion I did regarding alternatives and "bang for the buck" without having to go to some sort of Ford Escort or something! I did try a 07 328 and that car did absolutely NOTHING for me. It even had a manual transmission, but man, tack about lack of "oomph"

I have owned BMWs before (328 Coupe and M Z3 Coupe), and truth be told, if I had not made my mind up for a SUV, the IS would perhaps be the one I end up with too

Yeah, the IS350 is a pretty sweet car. I wasnt even considering one until I saw them in the $30's. Since its a 2 year old car and fully loaded its MSRP is $46K. If I was spending $46K, I'd wait for the Lexus IS-F for $50k. Same car with a 400+ HP V8. But then again, thats $20k more than I spent. And If I was gonna spend $50k...I'd go to $60k and get a CLEAN 996TT....lol....so you see why I am at $30k....bang for the buck. The cool thing I like BETTER than my 996 is the gadgets...this car is like a Bond car with everything it does...very cool, but not cheap or "gimmicky" in any way. Just a cool car on the surface, but when you look deeper, its got some great stuff.

I hear ya on the gadgets. For the same price as I will sell my car, I can get either a 03 745i (talk about gadgets) or a 03 X5 4.6is. Too bad the roads here are so bad that I have decided to go the SUV route, but a comfy gadget filled sedan does call me once in a while, especially taking into account that the wife already has a SUV...

Great choice! I have a '07 IS250 for my daily and its an excellent car. Push button start, remote key access/recognition, touch screen nav, I can go on forever with all the gadgets! Lexus really did a phenomenal job with the car.

The is350 definitely has more 'pep to it, and as you mentioned is very reliable and fun to drive daily. Enjoy!
