I have the stock CR220 with the 6 CD Changer and stock Amp in the trunk. I had Anson at Audiomods http://www.audimods.com install a solid state relay that taps into the CD Changer output that is connect to a "Footwell light switch". Everything looks stock, and the switch lights up like the other switches via the light switch. This way I can listen to CD's, Ipod, Radio, and even Cassettes if I want. I use the "Footwell light switch" to flip between the CD's and Ipod. It even charges the Ipod and turns it off when I turn off the ignition. I have two cubby holes in the in center console, so I just put the Ipod in the lower one. Out of sight and I can reach down and change songs or pull it out to view the menus.

 

An inexpensive ($35) way to use your ipod nano in older Porsche's with a cassette player is with a Belkin iPOD Nano Tunedeck. I just got one for my 01 C2 Cab. I plan to try it tomorrow - my car is in storage for the winter - and I'll post my thoughts on the sound quality. I imagine it will be diminished a bit but I'm hopeful as Belkin is a company know for good quality products.

 

Well, I put the Belkin cassette thingie in my 2001 C2 Cab today and it worked just fine. My ipod nano now plays through my factory radio! Two things I noticed:

1, with the volume really really low and the engine not running, you can hear the cassette player mechanism a bit but at regular or high volume, it's obviously gone.

2. the EQ is a bit flat. I think it's because of the transfer from digital to analog through the cassette head. I changed the EQ on my nano to ROCK mode and it sounded fine.

I'm told that the quality of the music with this adaper is far better than with one of those cassette things with a wire hanging off of it and I would definately agree.

Lastly, it puts your ipod nano up high and slightly in front of the dash vent. It doesn't look bad at all! All in all, I think it's worth it unless you want to change out the head unit and go that route.

If you're going to buy one of these things, please note that these things are a bit fragile. You can't just slam your ipod in the dock. You must support the base of the dock with one hand and gently slide the ipod in with the other. The part that receives the ipod just hangs off the adapter. I broke my first one kinda man handling it but Tiger Direct took it back and sent me another one. Also, If your ipod nano doesn't seem to fit in the device when you get it, there is a optional receptor that is included that you will have to change. I think they do this so you can use a gen 1 or gen 2 nano. Anyhow, use a small jewelers screwdriver to lift up on the small tabs that hold it in place and slide it up. Then slide the other sleve on the device. The instructions arn't very clear when it comes to this part!

Sorry to be so long winded and I hope this helps someone out! I'm a newbie on the forum and have already learned much. Now, onto the speakers!

 

can you post a pic on how this thing looks in the car mounted... is the cradle and cassette one piece and the nano hangs in front of the cassette?

I will next weekend as my car is in storage away from my home. But basically, the cassette player adapter inserts all the way into the deck so the ipod is just touching the vents above the cassette deck. It really does not look bad at all! But I will take a pic next weekend and post it.

 

whatever you use don't use that FM transmiter crap believe me you'll never be have with it!!! I wasn't!!

Here are the pictures of the Belkin cassette ipod thingie in place. Two of the pics are with the ipod in place and one is just the unit. Other than it being somewhat fragile (you need to support the base of the unit when you slide your ipod nano in) it works pretty well. I found if I turned off Donby noise reduction on the head unit, it improved the sound a bit. All in all, it's a pretty inexpensive solution! Now.... on to those crappy speakers!
