Damn! I just gave out info. on reasonable key program to another guy on Rennlist.
Here you go, call Circle Porsche in Long Beach, ask for Alberto (tech serv.) tell him Peter (Red Cab) recommended. He will give you a fair price to program your key. By the way, he's really nice guy to deal with.

Rodney,
Haven't hear from you for a long time. How're you doing? Listen, Alberto is a very nice guy. He can get you a really good deal. Pricing is on individual basis. Other dealers will charge between $150-$200 for the programming. I paid a lot less. If you talk to him let him know that you're a good friend of mine. Tell him that Peter (Red Cab) is recommended. GL!

I just purchase the remote for $105 and blade for $15 at Sunset Porsche. I'll need to get it cut and programmed as well. I have been quoted about $50 to cut the blade and about $100ish to program the key.
The dealer told me that it isn't a staright forward process and suggest I schedule an appointment with them and have the original key and car available as they'll need to test to ensure everything works. I guess there is a possibility that the program on the original key may be lost.

I'd like to know also if the remote just stopped working, can they reprogram the remote without the 24 digit code? I remember reading somewhere that the car has 4 slots and the remote program codes are stored in the car, is that right?

Local Porsche dealership told me they require the code. I have a spare that was given to me which the dealer is unable to program. Sorry .. I'm unsure where the codes are stored ..

im going to order the key stuff from sunset in oregon and am still looking locally for a INDI who can program it.

When I was researching the remote programing, the conclusion was the remote cannot be programed by an INDI due to some programing code from Porsche. THerefore, we are left with finding the best priced local dealers.

I have a brand new 996 2-button remote head. I ordered from Suncoast and decided to use the CGT key head. I'll let go for $95 shipped.

Daytrder, when you ordered the CGT remote head, did it come with the internals and the program code? I'd like to get the newer 911 remote head but thought those came only in a shell and the inside would need to be transferred to the new head. Thanks for yur help.

So you know that the 911 remote does come with its own transmitter.
