04-05 C4S vs 06-07 Cayman S

It seems that the prices on these cars are very similar, all though in some cases the C4S' are a bit higher.
I love the C4S, but for some reason the Cayman sounds like a better purchase if I were to pull the trigger and get rid of my Cayenne.
Newer car lower miles more years under warranty.
What do you guys think?

I opted for the Cayman S over C4S. Just liked the newer platform and interior from the 996...nice updates that were worth it to me.

i drove both back to back and picked the C4S. wish i could afford a brand new one. that's a really attractive thing about the caymanS: new car warranty.

from 60-120 a cayman s with an intake pulled a car length against a c4s with fabspeed bypass exhaust, intake. how do i know? i was there LOL

Handling is somewhat subjective in this case.

The biggest thing the 996 c4s has going for it is it has one of the best looking rear ends ever.

The interiors are slightly different.

Honestly, the best answer is drive both.

911 all the way! Plus a late model C4S is the best looking of the 996 bunch, IMHO.

Cool

My best friend has an 06 Cayman S and I went thru the same question.

I have driven it hard both on the track and in the mountains.

It is an amazing car.....but you see what I ended up buying.

I say go for the 911. The Cayman looks goofy.

How will you be using it? Normal driving? Track? The C4S is a better street car in my opinion, the Cayman S will be a better track car....As far as warranty, get a CPO car and they both have warranties up to 100,000 miles....

Main use for it will be dd. So know the task is to find the right car.
I have never driven the Cayman, and since it came out my opinion on it has been a bit harsh just based on looks. I think it looks good but its no 911.

i opted for the 911. the interior on the Cayman is nice, but the 911 just looks so much better from the back end. from a practical standpoint it is nice having the small back seat that you can throw stuff into without having to go to a trunk.

I chose the C4S because of the back seat (even though it's pretty much useless--the possibility of a carseat for future rugrats exists). Otherwise, I'd probably have gone with a Cayman S. Have you considered this Cayman S?

Looks pretty darn hot, I'd take it over a stock C4S.

Here is my take:

The C4S is arguably one of the best all around Porsches you can get. It does everything well, but nothing exceptional. However, it is a 911 and looks amazing.

The Cayman S is an updated chassis, looks great IMO, and drives like a dream.

We have had a ton of 911's of all types. After having a GT3, going back to the C4S was very bland for me. Therefore, I wanted something that had more feedback and was more agile like the GT3. Being in school, I was on a budget. I opted for the CS because it felt like the GT3 without the huge horsepower. Now I have something I can mod a bit, track on occasion, drive year around (came from a 2004 S4 and the CS has been amazing in this bad winter) and is simply a joy to drive short and long distances. When I graduate, I add another car to the stable and keep this as my fun toy.

That is what I meant a Cayman S.
Went lurking to a couple of dealerships today, looking at new and used.
There is definetely an appeal to the Cayman S. So now the next step is to drive it. I also found a 2003 C4S with 24k miles the price was not bad and had a couple of options. Had a wing which looks like the GT2 wing, but im not sure if it was a factory option. Also had an exhaust with the 2 oval tips which the sales man said was a Porsche option. Other than that it looked stock. Gray interior, supple leather. Definetly something to look at a bit more. Im coming back on the weekend to test drive it.
Thats all for now.
Thanks guys!
(i did see that post for that white Cayman S, the car looks great, allthough it is so modded that im not sure if it was a show car, or just flat out driven hard. That car is local I have seen it in person and it does look AMAZING!)

911 all the way. think long term ... 911 vs Cayman? Who's going to remember what

Like they use to say the Boxster was the poor man's Porsche. Now the Cayman is the hardtop boxster hehe

PS they are all nice, but the 911 is the classic
