Well, one could always install the narrower wheels, the narrower tires, the smaller brake rotors, the smaller brake calipers, the softer springs, the narrower rear fenders, and the narrower track, in place of the S's heavier, "performance" parts.... One could then remove the PSM components, the extra leather/alcantara trim, the power/memory seats, etc... to get the base speced C4S weight down to the base speced C2 weight + 121lbs of AWD mass. ;-) But, that wouldn't make any sense.

They're both awesome cars! Either model is fun at the track. =)

You mean the stuff that adds all the weight???

I thought we were talking about which car would make a better track car, not which is more luxurious in stock form....

The Turbo needs the brakes, the 996 doesn't. (Here's a track hint for you, if the brakes are big enough to resist fade at the track they are big enough....more is just added weight. The stock 996 brakes perform well in Club Racing). Finally, the C4S gets bigger springs because it weighs 275 pounds more out of the box. Did you think Porsche was dumb and would add all that weight without adjustments???

I've answered your comments. Perhaps you can tell me why the C4S has not become the preferred choice for Club Racing the 996? In spite of all the reasons you have indicated the 4S would be superior on the track, strangly the C2 seems to be the choice?

At least we can agree they are both great cars.

Sorry... I just meant to point out that the 121 lbs AWD system is not whole story with the C4Ss weight, though many often reduce the C2 vs C4S debate to that of AWD only. The additional 154 lbs is either performance enhancing stuff (M030 suspension is lower to the ground, more tire, etc... ), or luxury items that are often added as options to C2s, reducing the real weight difference. I'm not arguing that power seats make a better track car... =) But, if simply weighing the benefit of AWD vs RWD, getting power to the ground earlier is very helpful.

Anyone watch the Turkish grand prix this past weekend? I don't want to spoil it for anyone who still has it on Tivo, but the commentators were talking about how it appeared the key difference between the top championship contenders' cars was how early their respective chassis allowed power to be applied, exiting the tight sector 3 corners. It was subtle enough to gain only tenths per lap, but it certainly made the race exciting! =)

Huh? How is a 911 more a GT coupe than a sports car?

A Jag XK8, a Lincoln Mark VIII, or SC400 are GT Coupes. The 911 is a sports car.
