Great thread here. I am new here - and one of those soon to be new owners of a 996tt many of you have mentioned.
Lots of great points here, but I will say this as I don't see that it has been said. You can be happy with your market-dominant EVOMS turbo kit, or you can go the budget bang-for-buck route with EPL or Vivid. EVOMS obviously was first to market and has done a great job in the industry. But what is truly great about these new players coming to market (at any price) is that they force EVOMS to continue to INNOVATE and create newer, better products. When a company is the dominant leader in its fieldi it naturally gets complacent and doesn't work as hard to innovate and get better for themselves and the consumers. Think: Microsoft and Windows OS.

The comtech NSX kit also uses a twin-screw supercharger which is a lot more expensive then the centrifugal supercharges you have for the 996.

But isn't that what Apple did w/ the Iphone (slashing prices in half around the holidays). People who bought it at full price and waited outside the stores when it first came out I'm sure were pissed, but I can tell you the Apple store in the mall here in Northern VA never seems to be suffering from a lack of "traffic" and "sales". Just a thought....

I know that RUF doesn't do a bolt-on SC when installing. they pretty much pull the entire engine apart and rebuild it actually lowering the compression.
I agree somewhat, but 11 grand for an SC kit plus 2 for installation? It's only 13 K because it's going on a Porsche. Ruf gets 20 Gs for his SC! Hasn't forced induction been around for like a hundred years? It can't be rocket science at this point to supercharge a motor. I'm not knocking Evo's quality nor it's performance, but how much would it be if the kit were for a Mustang?
If you took an SC kit and priced out the parts wholesale what do you think that number might be? I'm willing to bet there is A LOT of room in there to bring the price down to where quite a few of us would buy them. I know - R&D.. R&D... R&D... I agree, a company should get a return on their R&D investment. But you can buy the whole motor for 8400 bucks. How much R&D goes into one of those?

I love all this R&D, how many applications does a vortech supercharger work on? Just about every, very universal, wow they designed some piping. $6K tops, I'm sure performance wise it's worth every penny of $10K but the fact is you can get the same kit for just about any other car for under $5K. Someone needs to design a bracket and piping kit for this so we can buy the supercharger for $3K and spend another $1K in parts.

I don't know, maybe it's all about the money. Take for example, purchasing the Pss9 suspension kit from evoms. You would pay about 3k for the kit, when Tire Rack had them in stock, they were selling for just over 1,800.00. The R&D has already been done, why would anyone want to cough up an extra 1k for the exact same product? The vortech V2 head unit retails for about $2,200.00, you can get them from some places around $1,900.00. I'm sure with their discount they pay less. I'm sure the head unit is the most costly part of the kit. Even if all the other parts combined equaled the amount of the head unit, it would run about 4-4.5k. That's a lot of profit...I completely understand some of that would be to offset the time spent for R&D, but 5-6k not even considering their discount.
edit: Forgot to mention in my post: I understand Tire Rack mostly likely deals in a higher volume which would allow them to sells products for less then other companies.

They do offer a few nice upgrades with the EVOMS kit, which will drive the price up.
-OEM Porsche center radiator kit w/ air duct and spoiler molding
-Bosch High Flow quiet water pump
-Laser cut MAF mount with 3.5" housing
-Roto-molded water reservoir & fill tank
-6-High Flow Bosch Fuel Injectors
-Custom oil feed and oil drain lines
-CNC Machined oil feed and drain fittings
-Proprietary GIAC tuned Motronic Control Unit
I still think this kit should be sold for $5-6K.
