About to buy 2001 911, pricing help...

I'm very new to this forum, here is my situation. I have a friend/client that is going back to their country this summer. He currently has a 2001 911 Coupe. I don't have the details if it's an auto/manual or what options it has yet. I have always wanted to buy one and this seems like a great opportunity. The car has about 55,000 miles on it.

He is offering to sell it to me for $30,000+/- a few thousand with negotiations if I really want it.(I do)

I'm wondering what the pricing range for this should be whether it is at auctions or private sale to see what kind of deal I can talk him into. I will update the thread when I get more details such as history and options. He bought the car used, so I'm guessing there are at least 2 owners.

Sorry for the long post and thanks for the help!

After doing much research on it. It has these options...

AD Black - Full Leather Interior .00
E3 Lapis Blue Metallic Top .00
M6A Black Mats - Porsche lettering .00
446 Wheel Caps with Colored Crest .00
476 Porsche Stability Management .00
P02 Adaptive Sport Sts Lthr Int .00
436 3-Spoke Lthr Steering Wheel AB .00
E3 Lapis Blue Metallic .00

This vehicle is on its 4th owner and I will be the 5th. Carfax says that is has been in an accident and the airbags were deployed back in 2003. The description says "...involving a front impact with a guardrail, moderate or severe damage reported."

With this information, what would the pricing be on this car that I want to buy?

look on autotrader.com, cars.com for current for-sale prices.
Look up edmunds.com or kbb.com for estimated value.

regardless, do a pre-purchase inspection before you buy since it has a fair amount of miles on it. You also really need to find out what options are on the car, and especially if it is a manual or tiptronic.

good luck - post pics!

I will definately do a PPI on it. I'm not concerned about the service prices. I purchased a new 1997 S500 back in the day and I still own it even with the huge service bills. I've just been wanting a 911 for a while and this seems like the perfect opportunity. I will get more details when I talk to him again.

A great next step IMO is to see the car personally. Inspect the car yourself - basic exterior / interior / engine appearance (maybe test drive). If you like what you saw initially then take it to a shop for PPI... but don't negotiate any price until you have PPI done. Just my .02

All the advice is dead on. I am in the Boston area and just went through the purchase process. There are a few cars listed in the area right now that you should consider. Would be glad to go over my thoughts and possibly help you check it out if needed. There are also a few great independent shops around for PPI depending on where exactly you are.

I just purchased a 01 911 for $29,500 and that seems like a little below market price. Mine - 65k miles, black on black, 6-spd, Victor Equipment wheels, new tires, Alpine HU, partial aero kit, tint, porsche logo in headrests...the car was clean. I think anything around $30k is a fair deal

What would be the easiest way to find out what options is on the car if the previous owner doesn't know. Current owner = my friend, previous owner is my friends friend that sold it to him.

I need to get some pictures...

Flyer, I tried to PM you but I do not have 15 posts yet! Will do so when I do!

I bought my 01 996 with 45k miles a while back and paid 36k from porsche dealer. I know it sounds high compare to other on the market but I got porsche 2 yr CPO warranty and the car is as good as new so I didn't mind paying a bit more. I think it all depends on how you feel when you look at the car in person and when you drive it. Without trying it and looking at it in person it's really hard to tell. Anyhow good luck and hope to see you here soon with your 996.

Cheers,
HpH

get ready for a little attitude but it shouldn't be too bad. The dealer in Dallas talked to me about RMS issues for 30 min

I have a contact that can probably run the VIN for you. To give you an idea my newly pcar purchased is as follows:

99' C2 76k on chassis (8k on engine/clutch/pressure plate); Alpine 9858 HU; Alum. pedals; 19" Works wheels; 5k on ps2 rear tires; 8k on pzero fronts;3-spoke steering wheel with silver crest; limited slip diff.; traction control; 6-speed; leather/power/heated driver and passenger seats; litronic headlights; had the hifi upgrade (door speakers/amp); GHL mufflers; Brakes done 5k ago (pads only) Body is super clean but did have one hit in history. I paid $25650 plus $795 shipping from TX.

Thanks, knock on wood she has been great! With crappy weather here I have only logged about 400miles in the last 3 weeks but she is running strong.

Only have put $60 into her for bulbs (there were no H7's in the high beam area) and a reverse switch.
