Supercharged 996 vs 997TT showdown

Finally got to play with one today. We did a few casual roll ons. The 997 driver was a good sport.

Medium speeds (3rd and 4th), about dead even. There was a little traffic ahead and we weren't taking any chances. We did a couple of those and it was pretty much a tie. The supercharger really shines in fourth, fifth, and 6th gears where they are taller and I can hold boost longer. Based on what I saw, we'd probably still be even on much higher speed runs.

Low speed (2nd) to medium speed (3rd), again about even with the slight nod to the TT. Very close, but the TT was slightly quicker at those speeds. We always started side by side, and I ended up with my front bumper next to his back bumper, and then holding solid. First, second, and third are too short to keep the boost on tap.

When we finally stopped, his first question was, "What did you do to that thing?" I love the blower. Best mod ever for these cars.

The 997TT is really an impressive car. I didn't ask, but I assume his was stock, maybe an exhaust as it seemed kind of loud at WOT. The 997TT is a huge performance improvement (at least stock) over the 996TT. I've pulled stock 996TT's before, and I for sure didn't have a shot at pulling the 997TT.

Good run. Good to hear that the supercharged 911's can hang with and aren't completely murdered by the newest TT. How many miles have you put on your car since the supercharger? I swear I've been reading your posts about the supercharger for quite some time now.

Thanks for sharing.

My Sc'd 99 pulls the TT from dead stop all the way to 140 (fastest I have ever run against one). Their engine may put out some power but they also have alot of weight to push. Unlike Dog's victim, the 3 997TT owners here are not happy being unable to keep up with an old 3.4 996.

Honestly, I'm not sure. 10K maybe? It's been on there for going on a couple years. I don't drive this car a whole lot. So far so good

My 99 w/the TPC racing walks a TT all day long. Did it this morning with one of the local PCA instructors in the passenger seat. I have had great success with the TPC product and drive it every day. I have had a few TT guys with a dropped jaw and a local friend with an M6 swear that I had something I wasn't telling him about. All in good fun though. Love that new TT in every way.

Thanks for sharing guys- you're definitely setting some new standards of fun with the SC'd engines.
How do you find drivability in the twisties or track with the SC? any noted improvements?

Hey and next time please get some video!

I agree about 3rd and 4th. Mine was SC'd 2 years ago, I've put 20k on it so far and 3rd and 4th are a blast. I've never raced a TT but I've entered the freeway behind one many times and they've let er' rip. I imagine they are somewhat surprised to see a lil' ol 3.4 right on their bumper itching to come past instead of way off in the background.

I did utterly annihilate a stock 3.6 and M3 once at the same time, much to the disgust of both drivers.

Gotta love this EVOMS kit.
