EVO 996 Stage 1 upgrade?
I have heard alot from you all regarding horsepower gains on the 996 - it doesnt look great with out spending a ton of cash. But I did find EVO's Stage 1 which claims 26 hp and 20 tq. Has anyone installed this or know any more about it??? The kit costs $1590 and includes: EVO High Flow Fresh Air Induction System & Custom Tuned Proprietary GIAC Computer Upgrade. No expensive headers or exhaust changes required. I wonder if you would feel much difference from these gains??? If anyone else wants to check it out here is the site: http://www.evoms.com/p%20996%20stage%201%20upgrade.htm

i have the evo stage 1 upgrade. i can say there is a small amount of power increase, infact if you don't know your car very well you probably wouldn't notice. the rev limiter does increase to 7400rpm which is nice, so you do get a slightly longer powerband.

I am getting my EVO Stage I installed this week. I will let you know tommorrow when the put back in the ECU, and tell you if I can notice a difference. I currently have EVO intake, Fabspeed Exhaust, and now getting the Chip from GIAC installed.

doc, I'm getting that but I also have the header/exhaust combo. I think all these combined you'll see close to 30hp. Without the h/e you might see 15hp?

I really appreciate all the advice guys. I look foward from hearing how your evo kit works out for you RWDRIFTC2.
It seems the best bet is, as you all say, is to get everything: headers, exhaust, and the evo stage 1 kit, so what are the costs for them?
Thanks again - Doc

Just had my first drive today with The GIAC Chip, and I do notice a few differences. I was fairly impressed with how much smoother the powerband feels, and the surge of power around the 4k mark. Also the engine sound incredible over 7K. With the conjuction of the headers, chip, exhaust, and airbox, I am probably guessing somewhere in the neighborhood of 25-30 hp upgrade. I am more impressed with the sound of the car, and just that along is worth every penny. I would like to see how my car would hold up with a 2002 and above C2 Coupe. Susposedly the chip is suppose to improve gas mileage as well, due the upgrade fuel curve. I have also heard that the chip does take time to adapt to the mods, so in a week or so it should finally settle and work in conjunction with all the mods.

tweakers. is it just me or am i loco. but who cares what it says on paper, 15-25 hp gain on a 3200lb car with a meager 300hp to begin with ain't gonna help you any. i just feel all these power gaining on these cars are almost useless. if your looking to gain performance on these cars, i would concentrate on rubber and suspension, i think these will be the best valued performance gains on the car which on a track would cut seconds off rather than a realistic 15hp gain. forced induction, there is no other way. just my thoughts.
i also think if you are some one who really knows how to feel your car(feather driver, not a stabbing the gas type of guy), than GT-3 seats are a must, you can feel what your car is doing. great mod for the money.

Forced induction. Or get a TT if you are looking for serious gains with modifications.
Listen to Relentless (as crazy as he is). He's got the experience with the 996 upgrades. There isn't much he hasn't done...
