997 Clutch Compared to My 996 4s..

I test drove a 997 Carrera 4 today, and all I can say is what the hell is up with the clutch, it feels like a honda, while my clutch is pretty stiff, but nothing like Ferrari stiffness or Corvette/Viper stiffness.

And the car only had 50 miles on it, the gear box was so notchy, it wasn't smooth at all, like I felt a little resistance going into each gear. Anyone want to elaborate on that for me? I couldn't even put the car into first going 10 mph, it felt just way funky.

Thanks,
Alex

My 996 C4s requires at least twice the effort over my C6 Vette. Have not driven the 997.

Yeah, I test drove a Cayman S. Clutch was pretty light and shifter a little notchy but not bad. I enjoyed the ease of the clutch on the Cayman. I don't care either way but Porsche has probably gone to a more durable but lighter clutch. I'm sure your everyday driver will appreciate it more. By the way, how did you like the 997? I've never driven one, feedback would be nice.

My 996 C2 clutch is quite heavy, my friends 996 Turbo extremely light, I read that there is a clutch pedal booster which I either don't have or was disconnected by the previous owner. In any case I love the feel of my clutch and just can't drive my friends Turbo smooth.

These differences could also be a result of changes in the tension on the clutch helper spring.

you get used to either setup, but i prefer the stiffer feel of the non assisted clutch.

Your clutch my being getting to the end of its life too...

On my Boxster S it was quite stiff and then I had the new clutch put in and voila, light and very easy to use. My C4S clutch is way stiffer than a new 997 clutch but it does have 20K Miles on it.
