What kind of Porsche can I get for $45,000

Hi everyone, I've been dying for a Porsche for years and I've been thinking about trading my 2006 Mercedes C55 AMG in for one. However I'm not 100% sure what I could get for about $45,000. Don't get me wrong I love my C55 because it's nimble, fast and is a V8 however I always yearn for a Porsche.

My only requirement is that it be a lower mileage vehicle, a 911, and that it be a dependable car since it will be my daily driver. My C55 has 27K on it and I'd like to keep it around 35K and below.

Any suggestions on model, year and mileage I can get for $45,000?

Boxster

used Cayman

Maybe a 2002-2003ish 911 in great shape

used Cayenne S

and countless older models with high miles......

I will say you can easily slip into a late 2003 or 2004 with 40K miles 996 C2 or a 2003 C4S with some miles.
I have seen 2005 997 C2 carreras for $54K, so if you can get an extra $10K, i will opt for the newer version. (that will be obsolete by july with the new 998!)

I'd like to stay in a 911. I almost bought a brand new Cayman S but it seem quite tight for me.

depends on the year, but i think you can get something really nice for that kind of money. What are you looking for C2/C4/TT?

yeah you should have no problem finding a decently low mileage 996 c2 in that range.

I'm looking for a C2 or C4, I'd really love to have a 997 C2S but that's out of my budget.

I'd look for a nice example of a 996 C4S.

Heck, I'd 'almost' sell you my 2003 C2 with 24k miles. You should be able to EASILY find a very good '02-'04 996 with under 30k miles for $45k, just look around and take your time. Don't jump at the first one you find, be picky and detail-oriented.

Hehe. The 'best one to buy' varies by person. Spend a day or two reading through posts here, and I'd recommend over at Rennlist as well (http://forums.rennlist.com/rennforum...splay.php?f=60). Read the various 'which one should I buy?' threads. Also, read this thread: http://forums.rennlist.com/rennforum...d.php?t=414586.

Personally, I like the look and prestige, but I bought the car primarily for the performance, and I live in a fair weather location, and I don't like open top cars. So, the 'best' car for me was the C2 - the 'purist' driving 911.

I spent 2 months poring over forums, searching for sale ads, going to dealerships, and hanging out at Porsche Club gatherings before I finally figured out what I was looking for. And what I thought I wanted originally is nothing like I finally chose (originally I had in mind a C4S tiptronic, boy did that change!). Familiarize yourself with all the options, try to see each in person, drive each if you can.

Enjoy the search, it's a blast! And Texas has a great selection of cars, so you should be in good shape to see stuff close to you.
