supercharged 996 3.6 or 996TT
Hello guys,
In the next 12 months I will be in the market to add another Porsche.
I am up in the air between a 996TT and getting a late 996 and adding a supercharger.
I prefer the looks of a 996 C2 with a GT3 like body kit over the looks of any 996TT. I would buy the GT3 but the need for a back seat is mandatory in this purchase.
What I am up in the air about is after I modify a 996 to my taste (supercharger, GT3 like body kit) am I going to have a deep desire for the power that only a turbo can give me??
I am in the begining stages of my thought process. These are some of the things I am thinking about.
2 wheel drive vs 4 wheel drive I dont think i "need" 4 wheel drive.
The Turbo would be heavier than a C2.
My assumption is the drive train loss in the 4 wheel drive turbo is more.
I could always make the Turbo a rear wheel only car.
I would never need "more" power with a turbo. The upgrades are only limited by my check book. So there would not be the feeling that I made a mistake and should have bout the more powerful car.
To me the Gt3 look is a cleaner look than the turbo, I am not a fan of the front bumper and have not really seen one that is not composed of the big radiator intakes. If I could find a 996TT bumper that was more of a GT3 type look I could easily fall in love with it.
AS far as cost goes, I have not priced either model or 996 C2 upgrades, if the TT turns out to be cheaper or a wash I would go with the TT.
As you can see I am in the air and can go either way, after rereading this post it sounds like a TT may be the direction I go, But I would love to hear your opinions.
Does anyone one know 0-60 or 0-100 or 1/4 mile numbers for a sc'ed 3.6??
Thanks for all of your help and opinions.
Gary

I would cast my personal vote for the turbo..... but then it is my dream car. I've read in the turbo/gt3 forums that the GT3 is more fun to drive, but I have no personal experience......I'm just not there financially yet... You might want to check with some of those guys if you want a little more info.
If you have the money to get the turbo OR get a supercharger, I would still go with the turbo. I know they say the kits are reliable, but I still fear for the engine internals when you take a NA car and add forced induction. It just was not originally built with that amount of power in mind... the TURBO on the other hand...heheh
I also use my car as a daily, year-round driver (yes, even in snow... when it's possible). So the idea of a porsche with 4WD is very appealing to me.
These are just my thoughts. Good luck with whatever you decide. please note that whichever route you go, I will be jealous.

The idea of a Porsche with all-wheel drive, big fat tires, and the ability to spin all 4 almost at will is very appealing to me... Not to mention the body styling of the turbo is just sexy as hell.
However, if money was a concern, I can imagine being pretty happy with a super-charged 996.

i like the turbo: looks sweet and only takes an ECU flash add 75+ horsepower. but a C2 is going to be around $15K to $20K less. so, you still come out cheaper with C2 + $10K supercharger kit.
keep an eye out though. marc at tubowerx told me he was coming out with a twin turbo kit for the NA 996 this summer.

Turbowerx did my turbos on the Boxster so I would consider letting him turboing a 996 for me, other than that I think all of you confirmed my initial thoughts.....996TT for me next.
