996 - Preventative Maintenance / Failure Points?

I've recently made the decision that I love my car too much, and I will be keeping it for the long haul. It currently has 44k miles (I bought in at 19k.)

It's had its share of mechanical issues:
  • Strut braces creaky (replaced)
  • Clutch replaced
  • Clutch boost spring replaced
  • Clutch creak under the car (replaced a part after the clutch repair)
  • RMS Leak (repaired)
  • Intermediate shaft bearing (replaced during clutch repair)

That gets me out of the way on most of the "big" items.

Currently, the car works great with only two minor faults:
  • The car sometimes makes a bit of a rattle noise when coming off idle (motor mounts? Other?)
  • There is a kind of whirring/groaning noise from the right rear of the car which gets louder when the A/C is on. The dealer told me it's nothing, but I know it shouldn't be there. It wasn't always there.

Can you guys recommend any other repairs or inspections that I should have as the car ages? I figure spending up front on preventative maintenance is smarter than waiting for something big to happen. Also any recommendations on the current issues would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Every two years you should also have your brake fluid flushed - and of course, regular oil changes....

Good thread - I too plant to keep the beast for a few years and a good PM is certainly a good idea!

RE: Rattle noise - I get that too and I think it might be the Licence Plate or the rear wing.... not sure yet. (I was just in your hood over the weekend too)
