Brake wear light on.... how long do I have
#2
Basic rule..........the longer you wait, the more money you have to spend. That being said you should have less then 1/8 inch of pad; then the pads backing plate starts tearing the rotor apart!
Hope this helps,

Ok, I'm not waiting too long.... I wanted to know if it was one of those thing like: stop driving, flat bed to dealer or Porsche engineers gave us a little bit of warning... I orderde a COMPLETE set of brakes today at Sunset, I mean everything: discs, pads, sensors, retaining clips, caliper bolts, dampening pads, even brake fluid. Plan to install them this weekend... along with my painted rear console/shifter/handbrake. wow. talk about busy!

I was goign to ask this also. My brakes feel fine. I can still stop on a dime it feels. My light will be on, then i drive later and it wont come on. I am goign to check it out and see what I got left.

Well I just drove the car and the light was off again, came back on after about a half hour of driving. I am going to remove the wheels tomorrow and check the pads. Why spend all that money on new brakes if they arent done yet, just "getting worn"

Its not a "just getting worn" light its a light that says your pads are low, change them. It will feel fine...UNTIL you start doing rotor damage...

It's a good idea to check the pads anyway. I was about to order all new brakes, but when I took the wheels off the pads were still good. Turns out the sensor went bad. According to the dealer I still have 10k left on the rear and more on the front.

Check the pads. I had exactly the same thing happen. Light kept going on a and off. It turned out to be a worn spot on the sensor wire. The pads were fine.

I agree with the others, check your pads! The brake pad light should not "come on and go off", it should only come on and stay. The brake sensor has a ground plate under the plastic; once the plastic has been worn off (the pad wares down enough to let the plastic start rubbing on the rotor) then the ground is met and the light comes on. The only way to get the light to go off is to replace the sensor (along with new pads). So if your brake light come on and goes off you most likely have a problem with the sensor.
