Clutch not engaging at all - help!!

Got back from a drive in my buddy's Carrera last night and right after a "hot lap" the clutch started smelling and then went out (i think it's the clutch anyway) - when putting the car in reverse, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc the engine just revs and the car doesn't move . . . what could be the issue? - again did the clutch go out or is it probably the tranny? thanks guys!

Leave it for 8 hours. cool down. Turn on the car, put in 2nd gear if the cars rolls then clutch is bad. Could be just disengaged clutch due to powe shift. If the car does not roll at all, then tranny needs a check up.

Hope it is an easy fix. One time at drag race strip my friends 997s's clutch did the same thing. He came back and we told him to turn off the car for two hours. He drove home and said it still slips. Dealer checked it out, no clutch problems later. Could have gotten too hot, don't know. The car is doing well now, he is not coming to drag race strip anymore though, too bad.

Well ive tried reverse, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th and no engagement when letting off the clutch whatsoever (motor just revs) perhaps it's the gearbox - if so what do they cost for an 04 Carrera? Thanks again guys!

not likely the tranny...especially if you smelled the clutch and you can still shift gears...either clutch, throw out bearing or both

replacing the clutch will be expensive enough...you do not want it to be the tranny...good luck

Have you checked the shifter linkage as well as the tranny shift linkage? It could also be a stuck release lever or bearing. Extermely unlikely the clutch disc is the problem. It would have some engagement even if it was completely worn.

1999porsche911 good point to consider - linkage may be an issue . . . besides "911 Design" in Montclair anyone else know of other Porsche workshops in the general area of the Inland Empire?
