Question on C4S

hello, I'm looking at purchasing a C4S (02-04).. Can anyone help me in terms of what I should be looking for (any specific issues to look for?) Any tips, suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

The cars were pretty much the same 02-04... there are the same 996 issues at play (RMS) with the C4S. The obvious things are a clean carfax, clean PPI, and maintenance records since birth.

Search here and on Rennlist and you'll find a ton of info.

Its on all 996 models (except the Turbo and GT3, I think, because those use a different engine block). I bought a 2002 model that had already had the RMS repaired. The repair comes with a Porsche 2 year warranty... and after that you can do it when you replace the clutch (to save on labor).

Happy is probably a huge understatement. It is absolutely fantastic to drive.

Unfortunately, I have not owned it long enough to comment on maintenance. I did buy the car with 18 months of extended warranty, which certainly helps with piece of mind.

C4S is the best piece of machinery I have ever owned.

(Though its my first Porsche so take that with a grain of salt... though I have owned several BMWs, a Honda s2000 and also have an Audi A4 sportwagon.)

I love it.

Same as above: I haven't owned it long... so maintenance has been cursory/basic.

I would recommend one.

You should see the C4S post:

The C4s is one of the few 996s that seem to be holding there value.

The price of an 04 being within 1000 dollars of a 997 with similar or less mileage....

I like the c4s and defiently think it was the one of the few good lookign 996's but I am wondering if they are about to take a hit on value as the 997 prices are realyl beginning to accelerate downards....at least that the case in Europe.

It's one helluva package from Porsche. When I ordered my '04 C4S Cab, it was a special model for '04 where they loaded quite a bit of options into the base car, and of course, raised the base price too. But with full leather, upgraded things here and there, the damn thing is a beast. I love it, and would have a hard time parting with it for a 997. Not sure how optioned out the cars are that you are looking at, but the '04 was loaded up nicely from the factory. And you may find some great CPO cars out there with low mileage. Just take your time, you'll find what you want.

If this is your first Porsche, make note of what Eric said above. Many of these cars are custom ordered and the options can vary significantly from car to car. The good news is that on a used car, the options don't sell for anywhere near what they did when originally purchased.
