My fuel pump just died today, was quoted $943 to fix at BH Porsche. What should the average cost be, this seems kinda high.

Why does this stuff always happen on a Friday afternoon??

Pump is about $250, not sure how long is takes to install.

Are you sure it is fuel pump and not relay?? relay is only $14

thanks- I'm kind of at the diagnosis mercy of the dealer. They are saying it is the pump, but who knows for sure.

Yep, started, ran rough at idle, then died - wouldn't start after that. sort of exactly like what happens when you run out of gas.

Being stuck on a Friday afternoon, not many options for places to tow to for repair. Dealer was the only place that would take car in on short notice.

 

got pcar back on Tusday evening, runs great. Cost me $907 out the door for new pump and relay. I price-checked other shops for a sanity check, found prices ranging from $800 to $1340 for the same job. Porsche dealer in Palos Verdes / Redondo wins the prize for the highest cost estimate!

 

A lot of money for a pump! But anyway, it must be done and you didn't have a choice.

Now, we can wait for your exclusive video of the muffler mod.

 

yep- overall car has been very maintenance-free so can't complain too much.

I am SO AMPED to get the video and pics done! Rescheduled dyno time for Saturday. Exhaust is coming off car tomorrow for inspection prior to going back on car Saturday for dyno and vid. Very pleased with it so far and how they have been handling the testing, they are being very thorough. Fit is excellent as is quality of workmanship.

I don't think anyone is expecting it to provide massive HP/TQ gains- we all know how that goes with changing mufflers on NA996 cars- more important is that it does not negatively affect things in any way. In my experience with it for the past 500 miles of testing, it feels on-par with the AP mufflers in regards to performance, but sounds a helluvalot better and does not add a shred of extra vibration to the interior cabin. Smooth as stock mufflers in that regard due to the way they are made.

IMO the primary benefits seem to be light weight and very agressive sporty sound, without being obnoxious. Like having straight pipes without the headache.

I guess if anyone wants to come out Saturday to San Pedro off the 110 to check out the dyno runs / see it first-hand just shoot me a PM.

btw, I think the plan of action is as follows:

1. baseline dyno runs with stock OEM mufflers
2. remove stock mufflers and install new mufflers, take some photos / video
3. dyno runs with new mufflers
4. shoot some video of driveby / idle sound of new mufflers

so if you want to hang out you can also see the installation.

 

Usually fuel pumps are a very simple job but I've never seen mine. $900+ seems really steep.
