Snorkel removal = power loss?

In my endeavour to make my GT3 decklid fit my C2, I'm at the point for test fitting to fix the damage to the decklid during shipping.

To make this work, I'm removing the snorkel from the intake box. As I'll be sucking in more hot air from the engine bay, will I lose much HP? If so, how much do you reckon?

Should I block off the opening in the airbox where the snorkel attaches to force the FVD intake to draw more air from the passenger side, where the decklid will be ducting fresh air in, or will this be more restrictive?

Thanks for the input.

I did the same thing to my 99' 996. I put in a fix wing, a K&N cold air kit and remove the snorkel. if there is any HP lost. I don't feel it.

Thanks for the input guys. Based on responses from another forum, I was thinking I'd be seeing intake temps 80F higher and a loss of 25HP. Seeing the pic of the cup car makes me feel better.

I'm going to hook up a an OBD2 reader and see what the temps are in traffic and at speed.

You CAN and WILL see intake temps of 60F - 80F or so higher than ambient depending on how you are driving, including the Cup car. Driving in traffic on a warm, sunny day, will easily raise temps to that level. Only rapid movement of the car will keep the intake temps within 20F of ambient.

You WILL lose power is you do not manage the engine compartment temps.

The snorkel won't fit with the fan location on the GT3 decklid. This is a non-aerocup II decklid.

So you picked a non-fitting decklid to remove a functional part of how the car breathes?

I got the lid from a fellow Rennlister who assured me it would fit. He seemed to be well respected within the community and I took him at his word. I take full responsibility for not properly researching it for myself. Upon receipt of the decklid, Moogle stopped communicating with me and I was stuck with the decklid.

I'm making the best of the situation and trying to make it work. If it doesn't, I'll sell the decklid, likely take a loss, and carry on.

Show me a pic of the decklid and wing. I have a spare GT3 MKII repro decklid sitting here that has medium damage from shipping, and it does fit C2 as I test-fitted it on my car. It's fully repairable.

I'd be happy to give it to you for cost of shipping if it will help, but I need to see how your top wing attaches to be sure it mounts to the decklid the same way this one does. I do not have the top wing for it, but it can be ordered if neccessary.

This is what it looks like:

Thanks for the offer. I'm almost done with getting the existing lid on. I'm going to take some readings over the weekend and make a decision on what I'm going to do.

ok- good luck, hope it turns out. IMO I don't think you should be eliminating the snorkel, maybe there is a factory replacement snorkel part that would fit?

Looked long and hard for a legit solution. Thought a GT3 airbox might solve the problem, except that the oil filling pipe is right in the way. Sooo... I picked up the FVD intake, placing the filter right in front of where the GT3 decklid ducts fresh air.
