Dash Lights on?

I am posting this for a friend. He is an audio installer and he has a customer car that has a problem, the dash lights sometimes stay on even after the key is removed.

The car is a 99, C2, Cab production date 12/98.

I have never heard of this problem and tried to help diagnose the problem, but I know 6 speed peeps know lots...any one have any ideas?

Thanks!

Yup...apparently everything is shut down, closed etc. and the dash lights are fully one...not just the little leds in the interior or the digital numbers...the WHOLE DASH...needles, RPM has marks, like if his parking lots were on....

no one else has any ideas why the dash lights may be on?

I just heard that maybe it could be a bad IGNITION SWITCH? That is you if the ignition switch is bad it can mess with your electrical on the car. The parking lights dont turn off, the AC stays on even when off...and other weird little gremlins. Anyone else heard this?

a bad ignition switch will cause strange things to happen. my a/c blower wouldn't run, new switch fixed that, it's a DIY (somewhat of a pain, not bad though).

There are DIY procedures at renntech.org, new switch runs about $30. i would definitely try this before replacing the light switch.

Best information can be gained from asking the customer a bunch of questions......

If it happened over time and if he was able to make it go away in the past with a wiggle of the key then you know where my guess will be... hey that rymes...

Good Luck Irv... if he still can't get it, you know where to send him...

fastbydrmike is infamous around these parts
I have a 01 Cab and my dash lights stay on for a couple of minutes after the key is removed. They always have! I think it is normal for your car to do this!
