yea chrono and i'm a believer in the updates, though next time around, i think i'd opt for the 997 gt3 with all the above or in other words to stick to the sports car end of the 911 GT coupe <--> sports car spectrum.

even in my 4S which does not have any engine mods and probably slower than stock from all the extra weight and drag i put on the car can defintely give the lambos and ferraris a good run for the money. i may not be able to pull on them or beat them, but i can defintely keep up with them

I' ve seen a handful of 911's in my 4 yrs here.

I' ve never seen a 911 TT except via a planned meeting (dave) in my area.

When I gas my TT up someone always comes over and tells me what a hot car I have.

So at least its semi exotic..

This is the reason why I don't think 911s are exotic cars. An Audi R8 or Aston Vantage is more exotic.
When you can buy a 10 year 996, add an aero kit, yellow ceramic brakes, CF interior and do this for under $25K, you lose the idea of exclusivity.

Now, a Carrera GT is very exotic. A 959 was an exotic. If you can dress up a lesser car to make it look like a flagship car, than you doom that model out of the exotic realm.
E.G. M3 or RS4. Many people don't know a difference between a 911 C2, C4S or turbo. My wife didn't know until I pointed it out to her.

To me - my 997 C2S is definitely more of a GT than a sports car. If I ever get around to selling the S2000 the replacement is going to be an Elise or Exige. They are true sports cars. Not exotic - but definitely sports cars.

The C2S is a luxury car in comparison.

I'd love to have a 997 GT3 but that would be too much money for me to be comfortable with at the track.

 

I think asking actual owners whether their cars are exotic is akin to asking married men if their wives are exotic. They're too close to the subject matter to give an answer that's not skewed to their varying experiences.

I think that to the "masses" Porsche is generally considered an exotic car. To those of use driving one every day, the perception may lose it's luster due to familiarity.

Maybe Leno should do a "man on the street" about this question ...

 

Perhaps this question may be mute..but what does Porsche, in their literature and advertising call their product? Does Porsche Identify the 911's as exotic? or is that a term for the CGT...just a question...

 

+1, well stated. when i first got my 4S from the dealer stock years back, i thought it was absolutely perfect in everyway (even the stock SUV ride height) lol
