Is a Porsche 911 an "exotic" car?

This kind of started on another thread, but I found the subject interesting.
https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...=134169&page=3

So, what makes for an "exotic" car? This is a totally subjective question and I (we?) am clearly biased.
To me, I start with how common the car is. I found on Porsche's site that they sold about 10,000 911's in North America during 2002. That is an incredibly small number. For March 08 YTD, 911 US sales were 2,204 (March 07 figure was 3,371).

Other factors that come to mind:
Price - it has to be expensive
Performance - may mean something different depending on the marque. I'd consider a Ferrari and Bentley to both be exotic, but in different ways.
Heritage
Desirability

I've always thought of Porsche's, especially the 911, as being exotics. What say you?

No. Porsche has already made 100,000+ 997s. I'm sure there are a bunch of 996s out there as well. The 911 is a classic - it's an icon - but not an exotic.

i think of the catagories at exotics and super cars. i'd say 911's, yes. =) but then again, who doesn't enjoy thinking that their car is considered an "exotic". lol!

Depends who's opinion it is. The guy with 4 kids working 2 jobs for the mortgage, driving a used Taurus just might think so. I lean towards yes just because if the childhood infatuation I had with Porsches, building models, posters, R/C's....

Here in Stuttgart - definately not. We have two primary dealerships here. One by the airport and one in Zuffenhausen. I see at least 5 everyday in my commute. Maybachs are exotic even here in Stuttgart.

Some more than others:

For Example:

I would consider a GT3 RS or a GT2 to grace the exotic category, but not any of the run of the mill 996/997's

nope. exotic / supercar is an entirely different class. Can't quite say my 911 is in the same league as a CGT, Enzo, or LP640.
