Bilstein, GT3 Bars, Agency Endlinks Installed on a 996C2
The Vivid Racing team won this job over a local competing job for our service. We follow through and ensure that as the customer, we are here for you. When you call us, we call you back within minutes on the information you need!
This customer brought us his beautiful 996C2 which already had some nice 997 aftermarket wheels and Michelin PS2 tires. The fronts are 19x8.5 and rears are 19x11.5 with 305/30/19 tires on the rear. No rubbing! The factory struts had been lowered with some H&R springs. However, for this daily driver, it was time to upgrade the suspension.
Normally I like to recommend the JIC Cross Coilovers for those that do aggressive driving and weekend track events. But some people who do strictly daily driving with an occasional spirited drive would like improved handling with the comfort of a soft ride. Having personally run these on my past 996C2 Supercharged, the Bilstein PSS9 are definitely the way to go.
The PSS9 offer adjustable ride height, 9 way adjustable dampening, and much improved handling over the stock suspension. The coilovers ride very smooth on the street and absorb bumps quite well. Hit the open Highway and you are glued to the pavement. This customer gave us specific ride height requirements for his setup which were about 25.5inch from ground to fender in the front and 24.5inch in the rear.
To further enhance the suspension and eliminate the stock understeer that is prominent with the 996C2, we added the GT3 Front and Rear Sway Bars. The big advantage besides being a factory Porsche part, is that the GT3 sway bars are hollow and very lightweight. Improving the rigidity of the car, the sway bars keep the balance in turns very neutral when setup correctly. The front bar has 5 holes for adjustment and the rear has 4 holes. Because this is a street car, we wanted to set the rear on the 2nd hole from stiff and the front in the middle. This would give the car more oversteer and better for around town driving.
To use the GT3 sway bars on the 996C2, you MUST change the front sway bar links out. The stock sway bar links are to long. Agency Power has these front adjustable sway bar links designed specifically for the 996C2 with GT3 Sway Bars. The sway bar links feature 3 piece teflon lined spherical rod ends and a beefy CNC machined aluminum center turn buckle. The rear sway bar links will fit, however we decided to beef up the package and add the dog bone solid sway bar links from Agency Power in the rear as well.
The final step for the car was to have it aligned. With a street car, doing a full corner balance is not necessary. Would it slightly improve the handling, yes, but to a street car, probably something that would not be noticed. So we had a standard alignment done to get the proper amount of camber and toe needed. $125 for the alignment and 4 hours of labor ready, this car was ready to be delivered. And for a good Vivid Racing customer, how about a wash too

Nice write up and good detail, I'm sure the customer is much happier with his pcar now. Did you align to GT3 street specs?
BTW I can attest to Vivid's good service and follow through.

cool- you may want to take a peek at the GT3 street alignment specs, they are in the alignment computer database. I had mine aligned to those specs last time around and like it much better than the standard settings.

Before and two after pics attached Dan. Thanks again for working with me to get the 9's to Toronto. This set-up is amazing. The car really does stick to the road now.
Got a chuckle out of my other half a couple of days ago after nailing a corner just right "... holy crap Pete, I thought you were going to keep turning right into the oncoming lane of traffic ...."
Got the intake installed last w/end .... great music for the car
