Ha, Funny
Yesterday I was doing some running around in downtown when this younger guy says "sick car totally sick, wow is that a Ferrari?" I told him it was a Porsche "oh yeah, that's what I thought, sick man"
Did not post, it was a compliment to me, had to do it now though

Seems that a lot of Vette owners have animosity toward the P car owner and its too bad.
I had my share of Vettes and enjoyed them,, kind of a stepping stone to get to this level.
The comment that was made to me was apparently out of jealousy. It was so obvious. I just didnt think it was a battle worth fighting. They are quiet now that I have the new TT. Guess the C5 isnt going to challenge me.

They really arent Porsche haters but they are jealous.
They would all want a beautiful 911, coupe or cab but in most peoples minds they will never be able to afford one and therefore if YOU or I have one,, the jealousy come out and the negatives come out.
I understand why they are so vehement, its too bad tho.
90% of the time here in Central FL where there are many seniors,, I get oodles of compliments on my turbo and I did on the triple black 996 cab.
Its the 10% that cant handle it.

My first P car was in 1995, a new guards red 993, OMG what a beauty!!
I still love the looks of that car.
I drove it for 4 yrs and lost $5K on it. Kept it in pristine condition.
Do I wish I still had it!!
The 997 although closer in looks to the 993 than the 996 still doesnt have that "look".
Too bad car companies dont go back in time and make new models of the older cars. ie, the 240 Z, older vettes, older P cars,, they may be surprised that there would be a huge demand. I d buy a new 993 in a heartbeat. the car companies spend millions changing the body styles and in some cases, the 996 as an example,, all that money and it flops (versus the 993 style).
Someone putting down a 993,, wow, they must have big mental problems.
just laugh it off.. consider the source.

Mercedes also has a "heritage" shop that allows you to buy/get service for classic benzes:

I'd love to have any of these cars (993 as well, of course).
p.s. I wouldn't call the 996 a "flop" since it sold more than any other 911 had before it.

I had a 996 for 4 years and loved it,, had a lot of fun in it but took a beating on the trade in. WHY? Just couldnt get any buyers so I traded it in and got beat up, lost $40K in 4 yrs.
The 993 sold out right in a few weeks after advertising in the Wash Post. A colonel from the Pentagon bought it and didnt dicker with the price.
I have owned all 3 models and looks-wise the 993 was the best but the turbo excels in all other venues and its an amazing car to me.
I was let down with my 996 a few times, service problems, was flat bedded twice breaking down but covered under warranty. Kind of embarassing to be stuck on the highway with an $80K+ car broken down and people going by laughing.
It was all fixed tho, new battery, alternator and that black box burnt out.

The guy must have too much blood in his muscles and not enough in his brain, the punch line is "the Porcupine has the ****** on the outside."

On Top Gear, they were doing a 911 v. Gallardo v. Aston ( forgot which one) film when Richard Hammond pulls up in his 911 and Jeremy Clarkson ( sitting in his Lambo) says "How's your Beetle?" , to which Hammond replies, "Fine! How's your Audi?"
Pretty funny stuff , I thought.
