Buyng new - no choice, must deal with liars and *******s.

Car auctions - Danger, stay out.
Rrisk to reward ratio makes this one not worth f'ing around with.

Pre-owned - FSBO is the ONLY way I go.

Someone once told me that carfax only show damages that are reported to insurance companies or services done at the dealer. If you got in a accident and fixed it "out of pocket". The repair will not show up on the report.

that depends on what type of repair and also where the repairs were done. anyone who buys using carfax as their sole measurement of quality is gambling big time. use your common sense, price, experience, feeling of both dealer/seller and car and even your spidey sense to work out if it seems a good purchase and then use carfax to confirm theres no gremlins is the best policy

etwd, im sure you had an awful experience, it certainly sounds like it and im glad it worked out in the end but to extrapolate from this a statement that all auction cars are damaged and/or frame damaged is quite a leap and factually inaccurate.

your attorney may indeed have availed you of all the "facts" that this is the case but id put the caveat, never believe anything an attorney says even above the old adage, if its too good to be true it is. this is double if they are earning money from you.

your advice is sound, if only you had toned back the anger and posted as a potential trap to avoid falling into everyone would have had something else to think about when they looked at their next car.

Huh? Angry? Gurl, Chill a spell! How much more syrup would you like??
To anyone interested in purchasing ANY type of car:

Please do not rely on the infamous 'Carfax', as it really puts a false sense of security on the deal. Dealer's know this and capitalize accordingly. For your safety, if it's that Porsche you've always wanted, please have a FULL PPI from a PORSCHE DEALERSHIP, A FULL FRAME INSPECTION from a reputable body shop, and for Pete's Sake, avoid the Auctioneers' cars totally.

Perryinva, what's up my Richmond brother?

Just wanted to add that I work at a dealership and sure a lot of cars that come from the auction have damage, but not all of it is major. A lot of the time it is scratches and whatnot. If a used car manager keeps a car long enough and it doesn't sell, they will take it to an auction to free up capital for something that will sell and make a profit. Definately doesn't mean they all have frame damage.

There is a big difference between a public auction and a dealer auction. Most pre-owned cars on our lot are from auction, and there is nothing wrong with them.

What a great thought! If you honestly believe that all auction cars have been wrecked you have been played by your lawyer. As the great - PT Barnum said "There is a SUCKER born every minute".

I once had a Lawyer tell me to sue for full custody - even being single and overseas.... Like there was any chance in hell it was going to happen. I decided not to finance her vacation home and settled rationally for her new car and partial visitation.

Ok boys and girls, obviously I have to spell it out for a select few of you. NO, I don't believe that ALL Auction cars are bad. My belief is that ALL auction cars should be considered bad until proven otherwise. Is that ok for you Mr. Germany?

ALL AUCTION cars have some sort of damage to them! That's why an auctioneer has them.

9 of 10, the Carfax report will not reveal this (the Dealer’s Carfax does NOT reveal this). Autocheck tells me that it is an auction car.

Be very careful with these cars, as I was involved in a car from an auction (which Carfax did not reveal) and resulted in a long, exhausting legal battle, in which I did prevail.
Perhaps you remember your previous post above in full...

Why not fill in your background - it would be easier to understand your credibility over your rant.

Need to lighten up a little here. Only trying to offer some experience without any ignorance or aggression. If you want to know about marriage enduring the Cold War, Desert Storm, Southern Watch, Afghanistan and why it might fail - then you can laugh... Your thumb is obviously becoming your overwheling compulsion. No need to strike out.

Boy this got a bit blown out...

Very simple, if buying used p-car why not go the best/safest route possible? Play the odds in your favor, esp in a buyers market

A dealer is in it to make money on you, in most cases can not be trusted. They will tell you what you need to hear, play the game.

FSBO you meet the seller, see his/her house, gather the real facts/history, etc...
In most cases, with an auction one is venturing into the great unknown
Why go there?

etwd gave out some solid advise, has nothing to gain, just sharing his experience.
Nice to learn w/out getting burned

GL in your quest, have fun searching
