The 996 and the Cayman S are both great cars. The Cayman S, being a mid-engine car, has somewhat better handling and is technologically better. Having said that, the 996 C4 is a great car and I'm enjoying it very much.
Yes, I sold the Cayman S.............actually, I traded it for a Cayenne S which I still have. I had serious sports car withdrawal this spring which led to the purchase of the 996.

Enjoy.
Come on down to Cleveland and see for yourself. Everytime I wash the car I am amazed at the showroom quality of the finish. Hard to believe but true!

I thought the same things..took me 50 years on the planet to finally get a 911. Wanted one since 72 when my girlfriends father picked me in his new 911 to take us to a dance my freshman year in high school. Each year they seemed to get farther out of reach and less practical to get, then I just said.."Hell with it, I'm not waiting until I'm 60 to get one", and found the 996's were remarkably affordable for what you got. I had a Z3 convertible for 8 years and was tired of the ragtop in Virginia..I wanted to enjoy the car more often. I'm driving the 911 much more than I did the Z3, and will only put it away in the winter..hose summer only tires can get you in trouble in 40F weather.
