anyone here spend time in 996 and s2000?

I have a 997 C2S and kept my S2000 because it's the most *fun* car I've ever owned. Never used it as a daily - just a fun/auto-x/track car.
I've never felt the need to replace the S2000 because the 997 feels more like a GT than a sports car to me and I wanted something light and tossable and tail-happy.
Considering replacing the S2000 with an Elise now though - it's everything I love about the S2000 taken to a finer, sharper edge.
For a daily - P-car >>> S2000
For pure fun - S2000 > 911 IMO unless you have a GT3

I have both, and I agree with most of the posts. It seems like everything you don't like about the S2000 is what makes the car so cool. And everything about the S2000 that is pretty cool, is opposite with the 996... ie: no torque, lots of torque, tail happy, not tail happy, raw ride and tight controls vs. smooth quiet ride and somewhat soft controls in the 996.

It really is. I mean, even the motor can take 8-10 lbs of SC'd boost without internal modification... that says something.
I drove mine daily... I loved getting into it every day, but it really wasnt cut out for normal, every day driving. The car could limp around, saving fuel, and act like a Civic -- AND -- it could absolutely scream. It wasnt so good between those two extremes. Power when the hot-cam (VTEC) engaged was great... but I can remember several days when waiting for that 5600rpm took FOREVER.
The 996 on the other hand, is a beast through daily traffic. As long as youre not lugging it, it can rip itself out of any traffic hole - and before you know it youre going double the speed limit. After owning a 911 - I hope I always have one. It really is fantastic.

I would like the s2000 as a DD if it was a little bit more comfortable, but that would defeat it's whole purpose. I guess I'm not cut out to drive a true sports car on the road everyday. Living with a 996 seems like something I could handle though.

Yeah on the street in traffic though, It's rare that I got a chance to wring that thing out. My roommate has 64k on it and besides a transmission failure in the first couple thousand miles( which Honda completely replaced and said it was an incredibly rare occurance, which I believe), the car has never been in the shop for anything, just oil changes, maybe a recall. It's freaking bulletproof. That car will probably out live us all.

I preferred the RX8 over the S2000. I owned a RX8 and have driven S2000s in just about every year probably more than 30 times. They do very nice on the track, but I don't like the feel, the RX8 feels better balanced. Plus the RX8 has practicality but isn't great on gas. I don't know the S2000 to me feels too touchy in the steering, also you sit too far back, almost at the rear axle. It's a nice car, I just think the RX8 is better for it's class, guess that's why I bought one.

I sold my S2000 to get a a 996, of course the 966 is a better car. But I loved my S2000, it is without question the most overachieving sports car in the world, the shifter is THE BEST IN THE WORLD, HANDS DOWN, brakes are awesome, handling is great, yeah the back end slides out occasionally, but it's a very predictable progressive slide. I liked revving the snot out of the motor, but like a lot of S2000 owners I used to raced motorcycles and revving is fun to me. Owned mine for 11,000 miles.....not one single problem....heh, its a Honda. For the money, its the best sports car in world...period.

I am another former S2000 owner who sold the Honda to buy a 996. I'd have to say I still believe the S2000 is a great car. Mine was a 2003 that I bought new. Just a ton of fun to drive. My wife however thought the car too stiff. Even with PSS9's on my 996, the ride is much plusher than the S2000.
Truthfully, I wish I had kept the S2000 and just bought the 996 and had both! They have two distinct personalities that I really enjoy.

I had a suzuka blue s2k and traded in for 996... nothing wrong with the s2k but porsche has always been my dream that's all... I have to say I miss my s2k a lot and already have plans to get one ... I think s2k cockpit is one of the best in my opinion... i love it.... can't wait to get one again....

LOVED my S2000. Basic maintanance (oil, diff fluid, tranny fluid.....) and you have a bullet proof weekend track warrior.
Sold it because to me, all it was good for was to be a weekend track warrior. Was too small to daily drive or run erands in (though I did it for two out of the 4 years of ownership) and too raw to take my wife out on a nice dinner (granted I had KW V3's ). Plus I wasn't a fan of the fact that it was a convertible (didn't buy the car because it was a convertible).
If I had the space, I would have kept the S2000 and gotten an E93 328i for a daily driver. Since I don't, a later model 996 C2 or an earlier model Cayman S is in my near future.
