Wonder how much weight it would save?

A buddy of mine at work removed both of the rear to allow more room for child seats. He said it was pretty easy, but not sure how he did it.

very simple process and takes about 30 minutes all in; a bit longer if you choose to elinimate the rear seat belt assemblies (not necessary) ... nothing will be permanent and can easily be put back ...

weighing both the seat backs, light seat bases, bolts, mounting hardare only yileded 24 lbs.

good luck ...

Yep - easy diy. The seat backs are where the weight is. The bottoms are very light and just stuck on with velcro - grab a hold of them and pull...

Any instructions, tips....?
Where are the fasteners located, how to reach, wrench sizes....?

People who removed them, did they install a shelf for storage or leave area open?

Gently pry off the black covers and use the appropriate torx/allen wrenches to remove the bolts - can't remember what sizes but once you pop off the black covers, the removal process will become very apparent to you.

Just did that yesterday. Removed both seat backs and side locking pins. Very easy, at least 20lbs. Also removed spare tire, tools, jack, and pump, floor mats, and books in the glove box, at least 45lbs. Both good for a 65lb weight loss. Check out the official turbo weight loss sticky thread in the TT/GT2 section for all kinds of weight loss ideas, very informative!

It saves 20 lbs to remove the rear seat backs. The seat cushions are just padded plastic and don't save much.
