You should consider Sumitomo HTR Z 3 (or HTR Z III). (Note these are a radically new and improved tire over the HTR Z 2.)

Great tire, beating out many other top tire (including stock Contis) in TireRack tests... and get this, they are about half the price.

Many others (on other Porsche forums and other vehicles like M5s) have been happy.

I just installed a set and they are great so far. Only done about 600 miles of canyon carving (actually commuting to work but some of us are lucky) and they feel superb.

Waiting to try in heavy rain and on the track.

But see https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/996turbo-gt2/138123-i-took-affordable-supertire-plunge-sumitomos.html for more info or search Sumitomo HTR Z...

TireRack test is: http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tests/...irePageLocQty=

This is an interesting thread to follow. I have PZeros on my 2002 C4 Cab and am happy with their performance. Have had Pirelli's in the past without experiencing any of the issues mentioned in this thread. I've also had PS2's ('03 CLK 500) and Conti's ('06 Cayman S). Liked the Conti's but the PS2's hardened at about 50% tread.
Bottom line is that any high performance summer tire will need replacing every 15,000 miles or so.........more often if it's a summer driver only.

Sumi htzr3 here, they are really really cheap, awesome in the rain, ok in the dry, and not too loud.

inferior to the bridgestones mentioned above (only tire i've had on the car before). but so cheap when the money is needed in other more important parts of life.

and truthfully, my car is my DD, and the car still is amazing in the curves given the basic 966 goodness.
