I did the Autobahn on a rental Harley Electra Glide Ultra Classic in '02. Cruising at 90-100 MPH at times. Had to stay out of the left lane as cars were going by at 120+ at times. I have always wanted to do it in a Porsche, maybe one of these days.

I rented a Porsche from Avis in Stuttgart for a week in October of 2010. I drove it around Germany, Austria, Italy and Switzerland. Most of my time behind the wheel was on winding mountain roads, so it wasn't too fast, but it was wonderful. I did spend some time on the unlimited speed portions of the autobahn in Germany, and did some 230kph+ driving. My rental car was a 2010 Carrera S cabriolet with a 6-speed manual transmission. The prices weren't really all that bad, although the insurance was expensive with a high deductible. Also, the license plates are registered with local tracks like the Nürburgring, and there is a steep penalty if you take the car on the track. I think the penalty was 1,500 euro.

It was a wonderful experience, and I can't wait to go again in the future.
