I simply fed the wire along the driver’s side of the car and under the door sill. Connect the wire to one side of the switch. Connect another wire from the other contact on the switch and connect the other end of this wire to a chassis ground point.

With key on, this switch will now immediately turn on the fan drawing air into the engine compartment. When you turn the key off, the fan will continue to run for about 5 seconds until the relay shuts down. Your fan operation remains normal when the switch is off. This mod helps keep the engine compartment much cooler when driving around town and is particularly beneficial to any engine that draws its intake air from inside the engine compartment, such as the EVO SC.

hm.. that is a good idea
i could always add a manual switch to turn on and off that fan on the dash too

damn Jim.... you got alot of tricks up you sleeve.

Would your front radiator fan mod help in making more power as well?

Absolutely. Free power keeping your engine temperature in the low 190's versus 210+. The 996 also has an under performing water pump as far as flow goes.

Is this mod only for SCd cars or Its useful for any 996s?

Can you please tell me exact location of the relay, how to find which one is ground on relay? what switch and wire(gauge) did you use?

thanks

16 - 18 gauge wire is fine and the relay is in an alumunim box, under the carpet on the rear shelf behind driver's seat.

Yes, that is correct. Google will show you how to determine the ground for a given relay, or trial and error with a ground wire will work too.

What is the radiator fan mod?

Does running the engine fan non-stop cause premature wear out? It's not an expensive piece I'm sure, but have you had to replace yours yet?

I actually popped a cel this morning. As usual, at idle. I'll scan it later. It's my quarterly check engine light

1999Porsche911 Fan Mod

Radiator Fans

Connect a wire to the ground of the 2 high speed fan relays located on the relay carrier located in the driver’s side foot well. The relays are #20 and #22. Feed this wire to where your switch will be located. Connect the wire to one side of the switch. Connect another wire from the other contact on the switch and then connect the other end of this wire to a chassis ground point.

With key on, this switch will now immediately turn on both radiator fans providing maximum cooling. When you turn the key off, the fans will continue to run for about 5 seconds until the relay shuts down. Your fan operation remains normal when the switch is off.

You can now maintain your coolant temperature below 200F in even the hottest climate and heaviest of traffic.

Jim

Good stuff. So you guys have all three fans running non-stop while the car is on?

My car goes in for an alignment next week. May have them knock this out too.

I have a question re: cooling... Is the intercooler plumbing tied into the regular coolant lines for the radiators?
