Who's running aftermarket cats?
Which ones and what do you think of them? Quality, sound, etc...
I chunked my left cat. My exhaust started rattling after the last track day so I had a feeling something was up. My tech could hear a piece of the stuff inside bouncing around when he banged on it.
So many options out there. 100, 200, and even 300 cell cats....
I've seen a few on ebay that look okay and the price is right (zerotek, maxspeed, etc).
Any suggestions? The OEM ones cost more than the aftermarket, so I figured why bother...might as well upgrade especially since I'm running the supercharger. These are pretty much listed from least expensive to most.
Maxspeed:
Zerotek:
Fabspeed:
AWE:
EVOMS:

Another option that came to my mind is buy a high flow cat and have a muffler shop weld it in place of the stock cats. I would assume that would be much cheaper (like in the $400-500 range). Have anyone went with this route?

I run Maxspeed 200 cell cat's along with their headers...does significantly increase the sound...I put both on at the same time so I'm not sure if it's the cat's or headers or the combination of both...

i'd just buy the cheapest cat-section you can find that uses 100-cell cats. and if they gives you a CEL, just use an o2 defoulter, or one of those CEL Eliminator metal elbows that you screw your O2 into.

I don't know how many cells on the OEM--more denisty than 200 though.
The sound is fantastic. Initially I had just the Fabspeed mufflers--nice sound. Then I added the cats and headers--very nice sound. Not too loud around town, unless you get on it a bit. There are a lof of threads in here on exhaust systems and sound--a lot of differing opinions too!

hey andrew, i thought the cats were under warranty from the dealer for 7 years.. i've had mine changed a few times already by the dealer
also, i would call up VF and see which brand they recommend with the supercharger. i remember Delius telling me a few types of higher flow cats will set off the CEL
hey john, how's the beast running?
