996 C2 conversion to GT3?
Is it possible to modificate 996 Carrera c2 to GT3, so it is faster or about same as stock 996 GT3-s are?
At moment C2 are cheap(about 20k$) I invest 10000-15000$ and it is as good as 50k$ gt3...
I can't upgrade motor to 355hp...mybe 320hp (GT3 1998 http://www.fastestlaps.com/car45ca55316856e.html) but I can save some weight (C2 1998 http://www.fastestlaps.com/car45ca48a8cf8e8.html) and get better power to weight ratio than GT3...(seats, carpeting, battery, tools, rear seats, CF hood, CF GT3 wing with declid, ligh exchaust, mybe CF doors, plastic windows) I have seen plenty of C2 in web, that weight 1130kg (original is 1320kg)
If I change brake system to brembo or GT3 and suspension pss9, kw or gt3, change tires to Michelin CUP with lightweight rims and change body details to Gt3 aerodynamic ones, is there something else that I need to change?
I know that 996 C2 motors isn't very reliable, because of bad oiling system, but is there a way to make oiling system better?
Idea is that - I want cheap and fast track toy for fun, is it possible?

And, IMO, there is no way you could get a cheap 996, toss in 10K and make it better than a GT3. If there was, nobody would buy GT3s...
As for the mods, I think there was an X51 scavenge oil kit of some sort, but only for European Mk1 996s. But you still are facing the difference between a wet sump and dry sump engine, regardless of the retrofit. There is a simple X51 oil pan baffle that will mount directly on a 996 engine. I have one, it's neat.
WRT suspension, most aftermarket suspensions will operate as good as (sometimes better) than the stock GT3 suspension. But there are more parts to consider than just the springs, dampers, and antisway bars. I think there are some differences in toe links, thrust arm bushings, monoball mounts, bushing types, control arms, and chassis stiffness. Also, GT3 front sway bars are not a direct bolt in replacement due to the wheel carriers. And the short drop links needed affect wheel geometry.
Don't forget a 3rd radiator, and possibly flywheel, and clutch.
And after you upgrade engine, brakes, tires, wheels, and carbon fiber parts for lightness, you should be way over your 15K mark...

You could lose the weight, do the suspension, and then supercharge it....You would be over the 400hp mark, and be lighter than a GT3....15k is probably not going to do it...probably more like 20k for the whole thing.

The weight reduction parts you suggested in your post alone will run you nearly 10K. Don't forget Carbon roof in there too as the Sunroof adds about 35lbs of weight at the worst place possible.
You'll easily spend $10K on suspension to get the correct GT3 control arms, Monoballs, sway bars, Uprights, brakes.
I've gone through this analysis many many times with my car and decided in the end I'd wind up with a car that was nearly as expensive as a GT3, and only Just as good as one....with ZERO resale value
However if you stop comparing to a GT3 and just want a fun Track toy...a C2 with about 10K in mods makes for an outstanding track toy none the less. Coilovers, sway bars, wheels and tires and a little weight reduction goes along way. Just not far enough to keep with with a GT3 driven at the same level.
Karlooz has lots of track time on his Supercharged C2 which was wicked quick but he eventually pulled the supercharger from the car as he was constantly dealing with headaches from overheating. Even with the water to air intercooler AND an Alcohol injection system to cool the charge he still had issues at the track.
Bottom line is...the GT3 is simply a MUCH better starting platform despite the price difference. There's less left on the table to do to make it a potent track car.

Comparing the cash I have already spent on my car (up to now) to what a GT3 cost (then), I would have been better of buying the GT3. C'est la vie!

Egg-zactly. Taking out the power seats, back seats + carpet, andthe mufflers is a huge diet.
How many of us have said "If I only knew then, what I know now..."

Yup, a GT3 was $63K when I got mine for $40K and now that I have spent close to $15K on mods I am still slower than a stock GT3 at Road America.
I do have a nice C2 and can live with that happily but my advice is similar to what "himself" said. try finding a MK1 Gt3

Not worth the money or the effort in my opinion. As most have said before you're way better off saving the cash and buying a MKI. That's exactly what I would buy if I was buying from scratch again. The money I've lost and used going from 3.4 to 3.6 plus mods would have put me in a very sorted GT3 by now. I still love mine though...
Oh, and IIRC you'd need to start with the C4 as it's chasis is closer to the stiffer GT3.

if you are planning on a track-only car, I think it is worthwhile. I have seen a 996 prepared for NASA racing that is now putting down times as fast as any Cup car at TWS, with less than $50k invested. It is as fast or faster than a 997Gt3 modded with monoballs and slicks.

If we talk only about the cars and parts and forget prices and what is smart to do... What actually makes the GT3 so much better car? If Carrera suspension is upgraded (coilovers, monoball bearings, top mounts, handling arms, sway bars, control arms...) I think the biggest difference would anymore be mounting points?
Power: Carrera 300hp vs GT3 360hp but Carrera can be quit easily upgraded to about 420hp with supercharger. Of course its very expensive but supercharged 420hp carrera would definetily be faster than 360hp GT3.
Brakes, aerodynamic etc. can be upgraded to or even over the GT3 level.
Weight: stock weight is almost same but there are more possible weight savings in Carrera than GT3 for small money.
Did I forget some thing?
